Job Summary

This is a full-time position in the Information and Instructional Technology Help Desk for the College of Veterinary Medicine. This position provides a wide range of help desk support for computers and other network connected devices in two veterinary hospitals. The requests are handled over the phone, through remote session, or in person. This position requires strong self-management and communication skills.

Provides technical and service-related support on a range of technologies in one or more of the following information technology areas: system administration, network support, operating system support, and/or user/client services.

The work of the Information Technology Specialist will vary depending on the needs of the organization and the competencies of the individual and will range from providing assistance and/or providing Tier I support to leading projects and/or providing high-level technical expertise on highly complex matters.

The work of an IT Specialist will also range from generalist work to in-depth support for a more narrowly defined field. See leveling guidelines for further information and minimum qualifications.

Essential Functions

1) Provides technical design, implementation, maintenance, system administration and support of hardware, software, network and/or instructional technology.
2) Provides end-user support on information technology issues through consultation and advising, problem identification and resolution, training and reparation/maintenance of documentation.
3) Participates in projects and cross-functional activities related to information technology initiatives or processes.
4) Provides afterhours and on-call support for designated systems or services.

Area of Experience

Experience in computer maintenance, help desk support, network design to include security, hardware and software troubleshooting on both PC and Apple Devices. See minimum technology skills listed below.

Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures, including hardware, software and networks, with in-depth knowledge and skill in at least one area of specialization. Ability to troubleshoot both standard and non-standard issues.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

Level III – 4 or more years of relevant IT support experience. Typical starting salaries range between $40K and $52K.
Level IV – 5 or more years relevant IT Support experience. Typical starting salaries for this level range between $55K and $65K.

Minimum Technology Skills

Expertise in the following technologies is needed for this position; Windows/ OSX /Android/Ios support, Microsoft Office, VMware View, DBAN, DHCP, DNS, Global Protect VPN, Dameware, Supporting Anti-virus, Utilizing remote assistance software.

This position also regularly troubleshoots hardware problems. Once the problem is located replacement parts are ordered, installed, and tested. Hardware support focuses on personal computers. 0 clients, and printers.
