Job Details

Provides professional advice and assistance to student organizations in planning, organizational development and student activities.

  • Advises student leaders, boards, councils, and cabinets on organizational development, program planning and fiscal operations.
  • Facilitates and implements campus activities leadership programs, orientations, workshops, mediations and retreats.
  • Interprets UH policies and procedures, organizational constitutions and by-laws for student leaders.
  • Provides on-call support for registered student organizations, students and outside parties regarding university procedures for events held on campus.
  • Monitors organizational budgets and fiscal operations of student organizations.
  • Provides guidance and leadership for compensated student leaders.
  • May prepare contracts with vendors for services provided to student organizations in compliance with university guidelines and policies.
  • Assists in the maintenance of required records for student organizations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications :

Bachelor's Degree and 1 year experience.

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience.

Additional Information:

  • Oversight and management of Registered Student Organization (RSO) Event Registration by meeting with RSOs requiring special assistance, managing event registration information, facilitation of orientation, risk management, and the Get Involved online process.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student assistants at The Commons resource desk to serve as Cougar Involvement Ambassadors which includes training and management of those hours and experience.
  • Coordinate the carrel area and student organization resource room. Work with student organizations utilizing these spaces to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. Build ties with student organizations by having a visible presence in carrel areas.
  • Coordinate and ensure compliance for state mandated (Texas Legislature House Bill 2639) Risk Management Education.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and facilitation of RSO training and development programs.
  • Provide student organization consultation to RSO officers or members on a drop-in basis and by appointment.
  • Support department’s social media, website, and newsletter by working with staff members to collect and edit content, provide regular updates, and increase membership.
  • Develop marketing materials and publications for RSO Services, including the RSO and Advisor Handbooks.
  • Assist in the assessment of RSO programs and trainings, including development, implementation and facilitation of assessment.
  • Serve as the coordinator for outreach opportunities with university programs such as New Student and Transfer Student Conferences and information fairs.
  • Participate in the implementation and staffing of large-scale events requiring the presence of Center for Student Involvement staff such as, but not limited to, Frontier Fiesta, Homecoming, Move-in Weekend, and Cat’s Back. Frequent nights and weekends required.
  • Support the preparation of annual reports and annual budget presentations.
  • Serve on University and Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services standing and ad hoc committees and taskforces.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Degree(s) Required

Bachelor’s Required. Masters in Higher Education Personnel, or related field, preferred.

Knowledge of and ability to implement student development theory

Environmental/Working Conditions

Frequent night and weekend work. Must be able to lift approximately 30lbs. Must be able to stand and remain active for extended periods of time.
