The Comprehensive Model for Postsecondary Education and Transition Enrichment (COMPETE) program, which is offered in conjunction with the Human Services Aide Certificate and Early Childhood Aide Certificate Programs, offers four courses to student with intellectual disabilities. These courses explore student life, career and workplace readiness, and self-determination, building fundamental skills that prepare them for a positive college experience and a career opportunity. The COMPETE Non-Credit Instructor plays an essential role in helping students to connect concepts with real world applications. This position helps students navigate potential workplace obstacles and gain an understanding of how classroom content is applied directly to the work field.

E SSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instruction & Program Support
Assists in developing, designing, and leading program components that result in positive academic outcomes for COMPETE participants. Provides engaging, ongoing opportunities for COMPETE participants to experience success through academic activities. Develops and maintains a safe, supportive learning environment to achieve positive results. Builds strong, positive relationships with COMPETE participants. Creates and maintains discussions for program and participant improvement. Provides student group management while facilitating workshops. Provides additional supports within the Human Service and Early Childhood Aide Certificate Programs
Customer Service & Classroom Support
Reports to site on time and prepared as directed. Assists with needs of the COMPETE and Human Service and Early Childhood Aide Certificate Programs. Models professional behavior with participants, parents, and staff. Handles disruptive behavior with respect, follows guidelines, processes and procedures, and reports any issues to the COMPETE Project Coordinator or Department Chairperson. Monitors participant participation and attendance

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee frequently sits for periods of time, stands, and walks. Employee converses verbally or manually with others in person as well as by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.
Typical office/academic environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices. May travel to various Columbus State campuses and sites.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: mastery level of student learning theory; delivering student instruction; communication and computer; organizing and coordinating training programs.
Skilled in: communication, verbal, non-verbal and written: ensures understanding, adjusting to audience; maintaining the audience attention; present in logical manner and summarize information to audience; defining clear goals.
Ability to: focus on the customer; educate and understand customer's needs and concerns; follow a logical sequence; use learning aids; build collaborative relationships; effectively work with persons of varying cultures and diversity; problem solve effectively; exhibit a pleasant public manner; originate correspondence; work independently demonstrating initiative; maintain accurate and complete work records; apply analytical thinking; maintain good public relations.
Associate’s Degree in Social and Human Services and three (3) years progressively responsible experience in college readiness/access work, with an emphasis in adults with developmental disabilities. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
