Job Summary:
The Director of Apparel and Equipment Operations will manage the day-to-day operations for the football program and assist other programs as needed. This position will be responsible for equipment, ordering, inventory, distribution and licensing/brand management. Interaction with student athletes, coaches, staff, administration, and external partners is required daily to facilitate all aspects of the equipment rooms, and to promote and maintain the health, safety, and performance of Furman's student athletes. The position will be responsible for hiring interns, student-managers, part-time staff and volunteers.

Job Description:

Your responsibilities include:
  • Maintain relationship with the university's apparel vendor, utilizing their ordering system
  • Work athletic business office to establish departmental budgets and monitor expenditures ensuring all procurement procedures are followed
  • Directs the purchasing of equipment and supplies; receives and inspects shipments, reconciles vendor billings with goods received and works with manufacturer to resolve any purchasing discrepancies.
  • Responsible for day to day operations of the football program
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates performance of student equipment managers and arranges schedules as required to perform department support.
  • Maintain all athletic laundry facilities and appropriate staffing for each program
  • Maintain maintenance of athletic department owned golf carts
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to existing equipment; orders and maintains inventory of replacement parts and equipment.
  • Coordinate licensee artwork approval through Affinity Licensing; review artwork and final products from licensees to ensure a high-level of product quality and brand consistency
  • Ensure Furman University's brand licensing policies and procedures are clearly communicated to the public and various campus constituencies
  • Oversee the distribution of student-athlete awards and report items to the Compliance Office per NCAA compliance regulations.
  • Maintain solid relationship with contractual partners. Work with University Procurement Office to ensure consistent application of purchasing policies and expectations.
  • Overseeing the implementation of department inventory control system
  • Other duties as assigned


To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Bachelors' degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Responsibility of Final Decisions: Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures. Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck.
  • Knowledge of athletic equipment and its' proper use
  • Experience with laundry services for athletic teams
  • Ability to perform in a professional manner in a high-pressure environment
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible
  • Advanced usage with Excel
  • Supervisory capabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to keep detailed records
  • Ability to work flexible and irregular hours and travel, including weekends and holidays
  • Valid Non-commercial Driver's License, or ability to obtain by start date


In addition, our preferred qualifications include:
  • At least three years of experience working with an FBS, FCS, or professional team in equipment and apparel
  • Experience with Nike (or other brand) ordering system
  • Experience with inventory control system
  • Knowledge of University branding, logos, and trademark regulations, as well as, conference and NCAA rules as they pertain to recruiting, equipment and uniform logo requirement
  • Athletic Equipment Manager Certifications
