Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life

Position Summary:
The Assistant Director provides leadership to the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life through development and oversight of chapter support services for over 30 member organizations and over 1,600 affiliated students within the fraternity and sorority community. This position is responsible for the development of community-wide leadership and educational programming for council and member organizations. The Assistant Director provides supervision to at least one full-time professional staff member and additional student employees/graduate student(s). The Assistant Director also supports the overall community through coordination of assessment and data management of student organizations and departmental initiatives. This position reports to the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life and collaborates with the entire DSI team, and colleagues within the Division of Student Affairs, to support student learning and development through community building, advocacy, and student engagement.

The Assistant Director will:
  • Create and implement activities, programs, and services for all recognized Greek-letter organizations on campus.
  • Advise and provide intentional leadership/organizational development for the Fraternity & Sorority Life Programming Board and at least one governing council (i.e., Multicultural Greek Council, Panhellenic Association, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council).
  • Advise, support, and serve as the primary liaison for a portfolio of Greek-letter organizations.
  • Supervise the Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Life professional staff member.
  • Provide supervision to student staff and departmental interns.
  • Oversee departmental record keeping and data management.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate student staff.
  • Support the day to day advising and oversight of the Fraternity & Sorority Life unit, within the Department of Student Involvement (DSI).
  • Assist the Department of Student Involvement staff and the Division of Student Affairs with new initiatives to support student learning and development.
  • Participate in working with staff in student affairs programs as necessary or assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education or related field.
    • Two years of experience in a student affairs/higher education setting, and/or experience in a fraternity/sorority leadership consultant or similar headquarters role.
    • Experience with and understanding of advising strategies for Greek letter organizations.
    • Experience with inter/national fraternity and sorority policies and procedures, and national trends in fraternities and sororities as it pertains to legal issues and programming.
    • Experience with identifying, assessing, developing, and presenting leadership programs and training activities.
    • Experience planning and implementing projects including managing the development of projects, timelines, assessment and reporting and adjusting priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master’s Degree or in process of completing a graduate program in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Student Services, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Adult Organizational Learning and Leadership or related field.
    • 3+ years professional experience effectively interacting with students, faculty and administrators in a college or university setting.
    • Member of inter/national sorority or fraternity.
    • Experience advising and designing curriculum focused on holistic development for chapters and councils from the North-American Interfraternity Council (NIC), North American Latino/a Fraternal Organizations (NALFO), National APIDA Panhellenic Association (NAPA), National Multicultural Greek Council (NMGC), National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) groups.
    • Demonstrated understanding of educational and learning processes; group dynamics; student development theory.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to show cultural competency and to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
