Global Initiatives: The Education Abroad Advisor supports education abroad (study abroad and away, global academic service learning and international internships) by advising students, faculty and staff on various opportunities and options; working with students and faculty to assure compliance with university policies; identifying appropriate opportunities; preparing students for an immersion experience; developing and offering opportunities for returning students for reflection and application of experience; advocating on campus for global immersion experience; and supporting the mission of Global Initiatives. Global Initiatives at Miami University has diversity as a core value and the Education Abroad Advisor will be a member of a team that is building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty through programming which exposes constituents to a broad range of ways of engaging with the world and the diversity it presents.

Duties include and are not limited to:

  • Inform and advise students on a group and individual basis about education abroad opportunities through all stages of the process, including financial aid and budgeting, tailoring study abroad information to student interests, goals and needs.
  • Assist with the management of education abroad programs and applications through Studio Abroad.
  • Implement strategic marketing and outreach initiatives through venues such as classroom presentations, information sessions, New Student Orientation and the Study Abroad Fair.
  • Manage outbound exchange programs, maintain relationships with partner schools, process nominations, and manage billing processes.
  • Align study abroad options with the Miami University curriculum by collaborating with academic departments to identify course equivalencies.
  • Recruit, interview, hire and provide direct and functional supervision to the Ambassador program for returned study abroad students and to the Diversity Mentors program.
  • May require evening and weekend attendance at events and programs.

 

Required: Bachelor's degree, Prior experience studying or interning abroad; Prior student-facing work experience in an educational setting; Ability to manage complex and multiple tasks with minimal supervision; Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of learners and associates; Evidence of experience supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive curricular and co-curricular learning experience for students in higher education; Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills.

Position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship.

Consideration may be given to candidates with a master’s degree; Foreign language proficiency; Full-time experience with education abroad advising at the undergraduate level; Familiarity with Banner or Studio Abroad.
