Summary

The Section of Infectious Diseases at Baylor College of Medicine is involved in studying the epidemiology of infectious diseases, with a focus on the viral etiology of respiratory and gastrointestinal infections that lead to hospitalizations, including hospitalization due to COVID 19. The ideal research coordinator will be an enthusiastic person, able to interact with patients and health care professionals, and should be detail-oriented in performing laboratory tests, as well as in performing chart abstraction and data entry. The candidate should be able to work within a team of coordinators with shared duties and under the guidance of the principal investigator. Results of this study will inform the CDC on the effectiveness of COVID vaccine in preventing hospitalization.

Job Duties
  • Conducts patient interviews to screen for study eligibility.
  • Confirms eligibility by detailed review of the clinical record.
  • Maintains case report forms.
  • Responds promptly to any queries generated by the sponsor.
  • Performs venipunctures on HIV positive patients.
  • Processes blood and stool samples for collection and storage and preparing and sending samples to designated reference laboratories.
  • Submits adverse events, updated investigator’s brochures, consent revisions and protocol amendments to the Baylor Affiliates Review Board and the VA R&D Committee.
  • Maintains study logs and provides weekly enrollment updates to the Principal Investigator.
  • Schedules research appointments for study patients.
  • Performs procedures that are protocol specific.
  • If pertinent, keeps a petty cash log for multiple studies with appropriate documentation.
  • Administers study-related questionnaires.
  • Screens patient calls for appropriate referral to the Principal Investigator and/or Primary Care Provider.
  • Maintains Certification for Protection of Human Subjects.
  • Maintains OSHA training in blood-borne pathogens.
  • Maintains Certification for shipping of Hazardous Materials.
  • Maintains good clinical practice training.
  • Attends protocol-related meetings, locally and nationally.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with all investigators and study personnel.
  • Attends protocol-related meetings, locally and nationally.
  • Participates in sponsor-generated conference calls.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.
