Bow Valley College is Alberta’s largest comprehensive community college, serving Calgary at its downtown campus, and communities throughout Southern Alberta at its regional campuses. More than 17,500 full- and part-time students take part in year-round post diploma, diploma and certificate programs, micro-credentials, as well as adult upgrading and English language learning.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Academic (VPA) is the Chief Academic Officer for the College, responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the academic portfolio and related leadership initiatives. The VPA will champion academic excellence in teaching and learning, applied research, innovation, and the integration of academic and non-academic services to support the whole student, while advancing the broader mission, strategies, and goals of Bow Valley College. Like many post-secondary institutions, Bow Valley College is reorienting itself to remain both relevant and sustainable in an evolving economic environment. Guided by the mission To include all learners and To make all learning count, this reorientation is being shaped by demographic, economic, technological, and pedagogical drivers, and the aspiration to shape the future of college education.

Supporting the President and Chief Executive Officer, and as a member of the College Executive team, the VPA will bring inclusive and strategic leadership directed at fulfilling the Open Doors – Open Minds strategic aspirations, and in defining and implementing the next strategic pathway to ensure that Bow Valley College continues to shape the future of college education. You will provide the strategic and operational leadership necessary to take Bow Valley College to the next level and ensure that it continues to be a leading comprehensive community college in Canada with its focus on applied education. 

As the successful candidate, you will have a graduate degree in a relevant area of study combined with significant experience in a senior leadership role within a post-secondary educational institution. You must have a passion for student and employee success and a detailed knowledge and understanding of academic structures. In addition, you will have excellent relationship building skills with a proven ability to build trust, teams, and shared vision across a broad group of stakeholders. As VPA, you will also have an appreciation for the dynamics of a college that offers multiple relational credentials and provides supports and services that enables students to succeed at any stage of life. An understanding, respect, and experience working with First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) is valued and would be seen as a great asset.
