Job Description


The Chief Marketing Officer p rovide s strategic vision and operational leadership for Lone Star College (LSC) communications and public and community relations. Lead s marketing and public image efforts with College Relations Directors so that LSC objectives are met and issues are covered consistently. Create s and maintain s a consistent and dynamic public image. The position has emphasis on development of external relationships with local/national associations and media. Plan s and direct s the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of LSC's programs, accomplishments, and the views of the Chancellor, Board of Trustees, and key LSC leaders.


  • Provides vision and direction in the formulation, recommendation, implementation and evaluation of LSC's communications and public relations. Provides oversight and leadership for the Public Information Council to ensure a consistent LSC image
  • Develops external relations with major national and regional publications and associations. Develops opportunities for, and directs the release of information designed to create national, regional and local exposure of LSC programs, initiatives.
  • Arranges and conducts public contact programs designed to meet LSC objective, utilizing knowledge of changing attitudes and opinions of students and businesses in the System
  • Develops and coordinates a schedule of public appearances for the Chancellor and LSC staff
  • Creates, identifies, and develops opportunities for public appearances for key staff of LSC. Writes speeches, announcements, opinion editorials, and other statements, and develops presentation materials
  • Develops and implements training programs, and provides coaching for assisting key LSC personnel in sharing meaningful and clear information. Focuses on working with the press and media and creating a positive impression during public appearances
  • Hires, trains and evaluates a team of Publications and Media Relations employees, providing leadership, support, guidance, and supervision
  • Actively participates in and/or coordinates the activities of various committees, meetings, and councils. Promotes goodwill through publicity efforts and represents LSC at public, social, and business gatherings
  • Strong commitment to diversity of the college's workforce
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned


    • Knowledge of marketing, communication, multimedia communication, fund-raising and college relations Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.


    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
    • The incumbent will be traveling to various sites thro ughout the city via private car


    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience must include at least 5 years in a manager- or director-level position


    • Master's degree
    • Experience working in Higher Education


    Hiring salary is $135,000

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
