Job Description

The Aviation Safety Program is currently accepting applications for the position of Aviation Safety Program Manager at our Daytona Beach Campus. This position reports to the College of Aviation, but is located in the Flight Operations Building.

The Aviation Safety Program Manager implements safety goals and directives set forth by the Director of Aviation Safety (DAS) and support the DAS in the management of the Aviation Safety Department. This position will oversee the process for ERAU investigations and reporting procedures for hazards, incidents, and accidents. It participates in on-scene Investigations for accident/incidents with DAS. It will manage all Team Safety Leader (TSL) and student assistant responsibilities and maintain the TSL training program. This position will coordinate the implementation of all Aviation Safety programs under the umbrella of our Safety Management System (SMS), such as the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Program, and the Emergency Response Plan (ERP).

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Safety Management (SMS, FDM, and Risk Management)

  • Assist the DAS in the administration of the Flight Department Safety Management System (SMS) program with continuous monitoring and safety improvements
  • Manage the SMS risk management process and facilitate the risk assessment process (enlist subject matter experts and stake holders, schedule meeting, provide follow up, etc.) regarding current/potential/predictive hazards associated within the Flight Department
  • Administer the Aviation Safety Department’s Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) program
  • Manage exceedance monitoring and trend analysis through Flight Data Analysis Software
  • Engage in dialogue with flight crews regarding triggered FDM events
  • Present aggregate data and trends collected and analyzed through FDM program


Safety Programs (Safety Reporting and Flight Data Monitoring)

  • Develop/enhance electronic voluntary reporting system
  • Manage safety department process for analyzing, investigating and providing recommendations for all ASAP, Event, and Fatigue report submitters
  • Provide College of Aviation leadership with safety report trend analysis derived from safety report submissions
  • Provide timely feedback and communication for all safety report submitters
  • Manage the Flight Department Emergency Response Plan including revisions and table top exercises
  • Consult with Aviation Maintenance Science (AMS) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) personnel to create and administer of the AMS and UAS department SMS programs with continuous monitoring and safety improvements


Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Facilitate Flight Department and AMS Drug Screening program
  • Manage the AMS Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and maintain the Event Review Committee (ERC) process (if necessary)
  • Facilitate AMS and UAS hazard reporting through Web Based Applications Tool (WBAT) program
  • Consult with AMS and UAS personnel in the SMS risk management process and oversee frequent risk assessment meetings regarding current/potential/predictive hazards associated within AMS and UAS


Accident/Incident Investigation support – at campus and on-scene investigations

  • Manage all Flight, Fleet Maintenance, UAS, and AMS Department incident/accident investigations
  • Manage the investigative preliminary report process to include factual information and brief summary of incident/accident
  • Participate as a go-team member for all off-site aviation related incidents/accidents
  • Manage the post incident/accident review board meeting to include lessons learned and any/all Aviation Safety recommendations


Aviation Safety Data and Statistics (monthly, quarterly and annually)

  • Manage all Aviation Safety databases and routinely conduct trend analysis based statistics within the hazard reporting system
  • Oversee and manage the distribution of data statistics to key leadership personnel within the College of Aviation


Aviation Safety Communications

  • Manage overall Aviation Safety Department safety communication strategy
  • Oversee creative content for all Aviation/AMS safety social media platforms
  • Seek and maintain timely communication methods in keeping with ongoing technological changes
  • Represent ERAU Aviation Safety Department at meetings, presentations and professional organization discussions
  • New Hire Aviation Safety Emphasis Training


Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science/Aviation Safety/Aviation Maintenance Science and or Occupational Health and Safety

3-5 years direct related work experience

Preferred licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

Commercial Pilot License, Certified Flight Instructor Certificate, Aviation Maintenance Technician

Preferred skills, knowledge, abilities:

Must have knowledge of current 14 CFR Part 61, 91, 107, 141, 142, 145, and 147 regulations

Must exhibit strong communication skills and have the ability to effectively speak with employees/students regarding safety related events

Must have effective interpersonal and organization skills

Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems (SMS)

Working knowledge of OSHA/ EPA regulations

Ability to identify adverse trends and safety related hazards

Working knowledge of FAA voluntary safety programs

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher
