Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is looking to hire multiple Aircraft Maintenance Technicians to support the Fleet Aircraft Maintenance Department. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

Job Summary:

Perform authorized maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding, and alterations and returns to service University aircraft in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturers’ requirements and the highest quality industry standards. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Job Duties:

Use the methods, techniques and practices prescribed in the current manufacturer's maintenance manual or instructions to ensure continued airworthiness of aircraft, engines, propellers, and appliances in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations. Present and maintain a positive, professional image to our Students, Instructor Pilots, Flight Supervisors, and other University Departments.

Depending on Applicant's Qualifications:

Level 1

  • Oversight provided by management, senior technicians, and mentors to provide on-going development and progress in pursuit of autonomy of responsibilities to meet ERAU standards.

  • Accomplish Scheduled Maintenance and quickly respond to unscheduled maintenance requirements.

  • Perform unscheduled maintenance on all University aircraft on ERAU flight line to include weekends and holidays.

  • Support and assist the Shift Lead in the accomplishment of the overall maintenance effort.

  • Report defective shop equipment or equipment requiring certification to the Shift Lead.

  • Complete all necessary entries in appropriate maintenance forms, work orders, internal inspection forms, malfunction and defect reports, and aircraft logbooks while under supervision.

  • Become thoroughly familiar with the requirements of the FAA approved inspection program, FAA regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, airworthiness directives, advisory circular, manufacturers' service bulletins and engineering orders/drawings, as required.

  • Learn to properly document all parts, appliances, and materials used in maintenance of aircraft.

  • Assist Shift Lead in inventory control functions.



Level 2

  • Minimal oversight by management, senior technicians, and mentors providing guidance and ensuring ERAU standards are met.

  • Accomplish Scheduled Maintenance and quickly respond to unscheduled maintenance requirements.

  • Perform unscheduled maintenance on all University aircraft on ERAU flight line to include weekends and holidays.

  • Support and assist the Shift Lead in the accomplishment of the overall maintenance effort.

  • Report defective shop equipment or equipment requiring certification to the Shift Lead.

  • Complete all necessary entries in appropriate maintenance forms, work orders, internal inspection forms, malfunction and defect reports, and aircraft logbooks while under supervision.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the requirements of the FAA approved inspection program, FAA regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, airworthiness directives, advisory circular, manufacturers' service bulletins and engineering orders/drawings, as required.

  • Properly document all parts, appliances, and materials used in maintenance of aircraft.

  • Assist Shift Lead in inventory control functions.



Level 3

  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and oversight to junior maintenance personnel in the performance of their duties.

  • Accomplish Scheduled Maintenance and quickly respond to unscheduled maintenance requirements.

  • Perform unscheduled maintenance on all University aircraft on ERAU flight line to include weekends and holidays.

  • Support and assist the Shift Lead in the accomplishment of the overall maintenance effort.

  • Report defective shop equipment or equipment requiring certification to the Shift Lead.

  • Complete all necessary entries in appropriate maintenance forms, work orders, internal inspection forms, malfunction and defect reports, and aircraft logbooks while under supervision.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the requirements of the FAA approved inspection program, FAA regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, airworthiness directives, advisory circular, manufacturers' service bulletins and engineering orders/drawings, as required.

  • Properly document all parts, appliances, and materials used in maintenance of aircraft.

  • Assist or act as Shift Lead in inventory control functions.

  • Assist in the mentoring and development of Level 1 & 2 Aircraft Maintenance Technicians.

  • May act as or be assigned as a Shift Lead. (primary or backup)

  • Develop into and obtain designation as a Repair Station Inspector and/or FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).

  • May perform duties associated with Repair Station Inspector (I) designation and FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).



Level 4

  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and oversight to junior maintenance personnel in the performance of their duties.

  • Accomplish Scheduled Maintenance and quickly respond to unscheduled maintenance requirements.

  • Perform unscheduled maintenance on all University aircraft on ERAU flight line to include weekends and holidays.

  • Support and assist or act as the Shift Lead in the accomplishment of the overall maintenance effort.

  • Report defective shop equipment or equipment requiring certification to the Shift Lead.

  • Complete and review all necessary entries in appropriate maintenance forms, work orders, internal inspection forms, malfunction and defect reports, and aircraft logbooks while under supervision.

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the requirements of the FAA approved inspection program, FAA regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, airworthiness directives, advisory circular, manufacturers' service bulletins and engineering orders/drawings, as required.

  • Properly document all parts, appliances, and materials used in maintenance of aircraft.

  • Assist or act as Shift Lead.

  • Lead the mentoring and development of Level 1,2, & 3 Aircraft Maintenance Technicians.

  • Will act as or be assigned as a Shift Lead. (primary or backup)

  • Will perform duties associated with Repair Station Inspector (I) designation and FAA Inspection Authorization (IA).

  • Will be designated as a Repair Station Inspector (I) and/or hold an FAA Inspection Authorization (IA)).

Qualifications
  • All Levels: Read and comprehend instructions, write information, and complete simple forms.

  • All Levels: High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.

  • Level 1 - Zero to one year of work related experience required.

    Level 2 - One to three years of work related experience required.

    Level 3 - Three to five years of work related experience required. Supervisory and people management skills desired.

    Level 4 - Thorough Working knowledge of FAR 145, 91 and 43. Progressive Aircraft Maintenance experience in maintaining light general aviation aircraft preferred. Supervisory and people management skills required. Current Repair Station Inspectors (I) Designation required. Current FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) desired. Five to ten years of work related experience required.



Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

  • All Levels: Current Airframe and Powerplant Certificate required with no violations.



Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Level 1-3: Working knowledge of FAR 145, 91 and 43.

  • Level 1-3: Aircraft Maintenance experience in maintaining light general aviation aircraft preferred.

  • All Levels: Basic PC Software Skills (e.g. spreadsheet, word processing & database etc.).

  • All Levels: PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications preferred.

  • All Levels: Excellent communication skills required.
