Job Summary

Auburn University Libraries is seeking an Information Technology Specialist skilled in software configuration, data loading, software programming, and other computing support for electronic information resources. We are looking for someone who thrives in a changing technical environment and is flexible, curious, and creative. This position is part of the Technical Services Department, will report to the Collections Strategist and Acquisitions Librarian, and work collaboratively with the Acquisitions Specialist and the Informational Technology Specialist IV – Electronic Resources Application Specialist in the Department, as well as the Head of Technical Services. The successful candidate will also collaborate with other members of the Department and Systems Department staff as needed.

Essential Functions

The primary job responsibilities include providing technical support for analytics, including collection analysis, and gathering other information to help inform the assessment of library information services. The successful candidate will be expected to provide programming support for various analytics tools, data loading, and platform optimizations. This work may include developing SQL queries, running reports in MS Access, and managing APIs for software systems and tools commonly used in libraries such as an integrated library system, electronic resources management system or library services platform. Familiarity with business intelligence systems such as Oracle would be highly desirable. Skills relevant to software configuration and troubleshooting online access problems are also desirable.

Working in collaboration with other personnel in the Technical Services and Systems Departments, the Applications Systems Analyst may also assist with troubleshooting online access problems to electronic resources, providing technical support for Webscale discovery, and the customization of online resource platforms and metadata cleanup.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

The Specialist III position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and four (4) or more years of applicable experience. Typical salaries for Level III range from $42,000 to $53,000.

The Specialist IV position required a high school diploma or equivalent and five (5) or more years of applicable experience. Typical salaries for Level IV range between $55,000 and $65,000.

Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Effective written and interpersonal communication skills are required with a commitment to a high level of customer service.

Minimum Technology Skills

Knowledge of at least one programming or advanced scripting language is required(examples include, but are not limited to C, C#, Java, PHP, or Python). Knowledge of SQL and MS Access is also required.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability with respect to either library automation or business automation and activities such as data loading, software customizations, and online platform customizations.

Desired qualifications consist of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology or related field; experience with integrated library systems such as Voyager; familiarity with software and tools used in libraries such as an electronic resources management system ( ERM ) or Webscale Discovery services, authentication software such as EZproxy; and work experience in an academic library. Knowledge and experience in using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other software and tools used to create and maintain webpages or facilitate project management.Familiarity with querying databases and running reports using
