Working Title: Certified Medical Assistant Official Title: Medical Assistant 2 Employment Class: University Staff FTE: .65 Compensation: 16.04 hourly FLSA Status: Non-exempt Terms of Employment: 12-month, continuous Position Summary: This is an advanced position of responsible technical work involving a combination of clinical care, lab and clerical duties in the Student Health Center, and an engaged member of the University who supports the strategic priorities of Student Affairs. Responsibilities

75% Provision of Clinical MA Duties

a) Meets needs of providers in assigned clinic area. Anticipates needs of medical provider based on evaluation of patient schedule, and reason for visit. Prepares patient and exam room accordingly and assists medical provider as needed. Examples include:

i) Rooms patients, collects vitals and patient history according to standards.

ii) Performs peak flows and oximetry.

iii) Performs nebulizer treatments, EKGs, and other clinical procedures.

iv) Obtains lab specimens on patients based on chief complaint, such as rapid strep screens and urine specimens. Performs CLIA waived testing, and phlebotomy.

v) Assures patients who present to the reception window that are acutely ill get immediate medical attention.

b) Administer medications and injections as ordered by the provider, monitor for reaction and document in the electronic medical record.

c) Completes and processes forms. Documents data in the electronic medical record. Expedite patient referral to inpatient or outpatient services. Arranges consultation appointments, tests and treatments utilizing appropriate community resources.

d) Instructs and educates patients as indicated and provides follow up as necessary.

e) Explains and instructs patients on preparation for exams, tests and treatments.

f) Inventories medications and maintains supplies as required.

g) Cleans exam room and equipment, cupboards and restocks exam rooms as needed.

h) Cleans, adjusts and maintains medical equipment in good working order.

i) Sterilizes equipment as needed. Cleans and maintains sterilizer.

j) Assists with training nursing assistant student staff.

k) Processes medication refill requests.

15% Performs front desk duties

a) Answers phone, schedules appointments appropriately using electronic technology.

b) Collects and records payment from patients.

c) Proficient with use of electronic technology, including the electronic medical record.

10% Miscellaneous Duties

a) Participates in Quality Studies and reports adverse incidents.

b) Serves on Student Health Center Committees as assigned.

c) Supports the Division of Student Affairs Strategic Priorities, and the mission of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

d) Actively engages and participates in student programming, campus events and inclusive excellence goals.

e) Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:
  • Required to have completed an accredited Medical Assistant Program and is certified or eligible for certification as a Medical Assistant by the American Medical Assistant Association.
  • Must have current CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion
Preferred:
  • At least 2 years of medical assistant experience in ambulatory primary care, urgent care, or women's health and/or with young adult population.
  • Demonstrated ability to function well in a team-based environment.
  • Proficient with public speaking.
