Summary
The Air University (AU) Commander and President invites applications for the position of Director of Operations. AU is the lead agent for Department of the Air Force education.
The AU Director of Operations manages, integrates and synchronizes the efforts of AU’s schools, centers and staff to achieve the AU mission of educating and developing Air, Space and Cyberspace leaders in support of the National Defense Strategy. Working closely with the AU Chief Academic Officer, the Director of Operations provides long-term perspective and operational direction supporting the AU President and the leaders of AU’s eleven schools and centers whose resident and distant learning programs produce 130,000 graduates annually.

Responsibilities
The Director of Operations works collaboratively with AU leaders in the management and governance of education, research, outreach, and doctrine development. This position develops policies and directs actions to support integration and synchronization of AU programs in the areas of scheduling, production and plans. The Director of Operations also ensures academic services functions (Library, Registrar, AU Press, Teaching and Learning Center, Sponsored Programs office and AU’s Innovation Accelerator) meet the needs of faculty, staff and students. The incumbent teaches in at least one of AU’s graduate-level military studies programs.

Successful applicants will have proven skills leading and managing in large, complex organizations, applying program and process-management techniques and employing metrics. While a terminal degree is desired, applicants must at least have earned a masters degree in an area relevant to military or strategic studies.
