JOB SUMMARY

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor seeks a dynamic individual to recruit and enroll bright, motivated, and adventurous undergraduate students through the role of Regional Admissions Recruitment Coordinator based in the southern region of the United States. This is a 12-month, full-time appointment.  Requirements include a Bachelor's degree, experience working in higher education student services or closely related area, a demonstrated knowledge of secondary school and community college educational systems, extensive travel within the state and region, evening and occasional weekend work, and residence within the assigned region. Salary range for this position is $45,000 to $50,000. An excellent benefit package is included.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

To coordinate the admissions programs and activities for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (OUA).  As the southern regional recruiter, build and strengthen relationships with secondary schools and community colleges.  This position focuses on recruiting and enrolling applicants who are academically excellent, accomplished in extracurricular endeavors, and broadly diverse, as well as acting as a communication liaison between the OUA, the University of Michigan schools and colleges, parents and students.

50%  Responsible for the planning, development, execution and evaluation of recruitment and outreach programs to support the University’s mission in the southern regional territories.  Prepare and track budgets for programs.  Direct the day to day operations of recruitment and future planning for program continuation and growth consistent with OUA and University goals.  Coordinate with schools, colleges, and offices across campus for participation in the programs.  Oversee enrollment management and monitor trends. 

30%  Build and strengthen relationships with primary feeder schools to help increase yield.  Develop new markets to broaden qualified applicant pool from the recruitment region.  Represent the University of Michigan at recruitment fairs and alumni functions.  Support the University’s mission of building an academically excellent and diverse educational community.  Coordinate visitation and travel to high volume/high yielding high schools and provide outreach to community colleges within designated territories.  Exercise significant discretion and independent judgment in developing and modifying travel schedules during the admissions year to meet the University’s admissions goals. Advise students on admissions preparation, educational opportunities and academic requirements at the University of Michigan.  Meet with students, parents, and school officials in large groups or individually.  Interpret University admissions policies and procedures.  Provide assistance and answer questions regarding admissions requirements, academic programs and student life either in person, via phone or via email.  Provide liaison services to other University offices including financial aid, housing, orientation, or specific school and colleges. Develop and give presentations. Represent the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at professional meetings and workshops in the region as well.  Collaborate with other regionally located UM staff members from University Schools, Colleges and Departments in co-locating functions.  Work with the recruitment communications and marketing team to create publications and materials, and coordinate communications in support of program objectives.  Gather formal feedback from applicable constituencies and assist the management staff on making recruitment decisions. 

20%  Evaluate applications holistically for domestic and international freshman and transfer students using the University’s individualized, holistic and comprehensive application evaluation guidelines.  Recommend appropriate admissions actions in a timely manner.  Work with the processing team to support the process and document flow.  Make consistent recommendations abiding by University and specific school/college guidelines.  Conduct extensive communication with students, parents, and secondary school officials by explaining admissions decisions, including rejections.  Serve as the primary admissions and enrollment management liaison for the southern region. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a related field required.  Three plus years of experience related to admissions and recruitment, specifically in higher education.  Experience in the development and implementation of high attendance/high profile recruitment programs with the proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines.  Experience in meeting, planning, publications development, program budgets, and project reporting.  Experience with coordinating, developing and executing a routine and high volume travel schedule.  Experience in guidance, counseling and/or educational administration and knowledge of various recruiting principles.  Strong oral, written communication and proofreading skills.  Proven ability to make independent decisions.  Familiarity with application review guidelines.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position requires the individual to reside in Georgia or Texas. Starting salary is dependent on location of residence and appropriate cost of living adjustment.

Direction is received from Admissions Senior Associate Director and Admissions Assistant Director.
