Job Summary:

The Director of Residence Life & Housing is responsible for the supervision and administration of a comprehensive residence life program and all functions associated with campus housing. This position oversees and administers the student code of conduct process. The Director is responsible for the selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of three area coordinators, one shared Student Success Coordinator, and 30+ Resident Assistants .

Primary Responsibilities:

· Directly supervise and evaluate full-time Area Coordinator (AC) staff.

· Hire, supervise and evaluate all Resident Assistant (RA) staff in conjunction with AC’s.

· Supervises Student Success Coordinator

· Design and implement the fall and spring training programs for the Residence Life Staff.

· Create and provide training for all AC and RA staff during the academic year.

· Oversee comprehensive selection process for both AC and RA staff.

· Directs and administers the student code of conduct and judicial process.

· Administer and oversee the Residence Life and Housing budget, as well as hall budgets and committee budgets.

· Annually update the AC and RA staff manuals and Student Handbook Residence Life Policies as needed.

· Design, implement, and assess residential curriculum programming and community building model appropriate for Buena Vista University.

· Collect and analyze assessment data to continuously inform residence life programming model and learning outcomes.

· Develop physical and digital marketing plans for new and returning students.

· Facilitate processes for early arrivals to campus, room changes, roommate agreements, and single room requests.

· Update and manage all online and paper forms including website updates (BVU.edu, BeaverNet, EAB, etc.)

· Oversee “on-call” duty schedules and responsibilities of the AC’s.

· Coordinate housing assignments for all students.

o Work in conjunction with Admissions Office to assign all new students to housing with preferred roommates.

o Review and update room draw policies and procedures as needed.

o Schedule and coordinate the room draw process for returning students.

o Review and act upon all room change requests.

o Review and respond to student(s) requesting to become a commuter.

o Organize and manage break closing procedures.

o Annually review early arrival procedures.

o Review and respond to early arrival requests.

• Assist AC’s with roommate mediations as needed.

• Coordinate with Business Office regarding all housing-related billing matters.

• Maintain outstanding residential facilities

o Maintain an accurate inventory of residence hall furniture.

o Work with Facilities Management on projects through quarterly committee meeting to strategize and plan for annual maintenance.

o Work with Residence Life Staff to maintain the cleanliness of public areas in the residence halls.

o Review the work request list and address problems on a regular basis.

o Review all damage charges and approve billing to student account.

o Oversee Health and Safety Inspections

• Manage transition of residence halls to summer conferencing (Event Services) to maximize usage.

o Assist Summer Conferences to ensure optimal availability for conference guests.

o Create summer student housing assignments and organize moves at beginning and end of summer.

o Collaborate with Facilities Management to ensure time for necessary repairs and general upkeep of buildings.

o Select and train Summer Resident Assistant (SRA) staff

o Oversee SRA supervision.

• Maintain a strong working relationship with maintenance and custodial services personnel.

• May serve as Co-instructor/facilitator for University Seminar Class

• Serves campus-wide committees as assigned and relevant for position

• Serve as a campus ambassador for Residence Life & Housing and Student Success

• Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Success

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in student personnel, counseling, or a related field is required and at least three years of full-time experience in residence life is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· An understanding of Student Success theory and practice

· Demonstrated student-centered decision-making.

· Proven Leadership and management abilities

· Effective Communication

· Evidence of program and process development.

· Experience with budget and fiscal management

· Assessment

· Working knowledge of campus data management system (ex: Jenzabar, EAB, etc.)

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office
