Florida International University invites nominations and applications for its Dean, Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). The chosen dean will provide leadership and administration for all components of this comprehensive program and will lead the SIPA as it enters a new era in its distinguished history. The selected Dean will be a strategic, critical and creative thinker who is skilled at diplomacy, collaboration and consultation, with proven broad-based leadership and management skills.

Florida International University (FIU), one of the country’s largest public research universities, is located in Miami, a global city which is now emerging as a tech and innovation hub for the hemispheric region.  The institution has set an aggressive goal to be a Top 50 public university by 2025. Its mission oriented approach coupled with a purpose driven faculty and staff and hard-working students, give it an edge in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing 21st century educational environment.

Home to 16 of FIU’s most prominent international centers, institutes and programs, the Green School is also an affiliate member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA).

The new Dean of the Green School will come from a position of significant leadership and will assume responsibility for an exceptional and motivated group of faculty from a range of disciplines, talented undergraduate and graduate students, and substantial human and economic resources. The Dean will expand on what it means to be a diverse and inclusive community (faculty, staff, and students), and will work to produce research and training leaders who will confront current and future world challenges. The Dean will lead the faculty and students in research and training, driven by the desire to impact the region, the state, the country, and the world. The Dean will inspire loyalty and pride among its faculty, students, and alumni. A significant part of the new Dean's responsibilities will be to align initiatives with the FIU strategic plan and to maintain SIPA's commitment and infrastructure in support of the student success KPIs. 

The new dean will be an individual who is innovative, strategic, and visionary; a well-connected and well-informed individual with an understanding of world affairs and how they relate to The Green School; and a leader who can connect with world locations and other untapped markets. 

Among other attributes, ideal candidates will come with a commitment to the education of both undergraduate and graduate students; will have a thorough, working understanding of and focus on applying scholarly research to public policy issues; will be engaged and engaging; will bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, equity, and social justice; will have significant experience as a leader of a complex organization, including a record of success and excellence in fiscal responsibility; will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other constituents important to a university, school, region, state, nation, and world; and will have a passion for educating students and serving a mission of teaching, research, and service. Qualified candidates will be a distinguished academic, appointable to rank of full professor within a department of the Green School or possess experience commensurate with executive-level leadership.
