Position Summary:

This is an entry level position providing technical support to the daily operational needs in all areas of the Large Animal Area of the UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Learns and develops proficiency of technical skills utilized in the area for quality patient care.
2) Participates in review of inpatient cases/treatments and gives assistance where needed.
3) Develops the ability to anticipate and initiate the needs of Clinical Faculty and staff during procedures/daily operational needs.
4) Assists hospital staff with large animal handling.

The work is performed under direct supervision.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

1. Knowledge of inventory, record keeping and billing procedures utilized in a veterinary hospital.
2. Ability to function calmly in stressful, life and death situations.
3. Good oral and written communication skills.
4. Knowledge of standards for quality animal nursing care and proper procedures associated with large animal patients.
5. Equine handling skills preferred.

Tuesday-Friday, 9AM-5:30PM

Some flexible hours, weekends, and holiday on-call required, depending on the needs of the unit.

This is a 2 year project position, with the potential to become ongoing based on department need and finances.

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 24 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

Salary:

Minimum $14.00 HOURLY
