The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment for Academic Year 2021-2022. Rank will be dependent on education, experience, and stature in the field. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 30, 2021.
The position will require the incumbent to teach three undergraduate courses per semester (fall and spring) in French, including French language courses at all levels as well as an advanced course in their specialty. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.

Salary is competitive.
Applicants will preferably hold a Ph.D. in French and Francophone studies and have either native or near-native fluency in both English and French. Experience teaching at all levels of the French curriculum with the integration of technology is preferred, as are expertise in francophone Sub-Saharan African societies and cultures and inclusive teaching strategies.
