Job Summary

The Senior Tutor in the Writing Center will assist writers from all disciplines with grammar, writing, speech, and various self-paced materials in the Writing Center and will perform special projects. Other tasks might include answering the Grammar Hotline, responding to Online Writing Lab (OWL) submissions, rectifying software issues, filling in at reception desk. This job requires professional development, including attendance at weekly training sessions or other scheduled meetings, written reflections, research, presentation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Completion of Composition 1 and Composition 2 with B or better (JCCC Preferred)
Two years tutoring or teaching experience, with minimum of one year in a college Writing Center
Good communication skills, including listening with patience and understanding
Demonstrated excellent grammar and writing skills with the ability to explain concepts and provide examples in both oral and written form.
Ability to learn and utilize effective tutoring techniques following best practices.
Ability to help with computer and standard office equipment
Proficient with technology

Preferred Qualifications

College Reading and Language Association certification (CRLA), level 1 certified
