Job Summary
The Senior Tutor will provide one-on-one individualized and drop-in tutoring services to students at JCCC and will demonstrate understanding of the unique learning needs of students and adapt to those individual needs. The Senior Tutor will remain current on subject matter in courses which they are assigned for tutoring, maintain a working knowledge of learning strategies, attend trainings on topics pertaining to tutoring techniques and working with students of varying abilities. Other responsibilities include referring students to appropriate resources, assisting students, faculty, and staff in the AAC, mentoring new and peer tutors, working in outreach programs, overseeing operations in the absence of the Tutor Coordinator, performing special projects, and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
2 years of tutoring or teaching experience, with a minimum of 1 year tutoring experience in a college academic achievement center or like experience in a collegiate academic department or division
Experience working with students with disabilities
Well-developed communication and listening skills
Good organizational skills
Ability to use email and online resources as well as help students with computer programs and online learning platforms
Ability to explain content material to students orally and in written form
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in education or related area
Experience in Psychology
