Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Assistant/ Director of the Clinical Research Operations Unit of the Clinical Trials Office ( CTO ) at Massey Cancer Center ( MCC ) is accountable for providing managerial and strategic leadership to the clinical research operations unit. S/he directs managers/supervisors assigned as Leads of the clinical operations disease aligned groups (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta and Echo) and Managers of two data management core within the clinical operations unit by establishing and implementing operational standards and monitoring progress and compliance. S/he serves as the subject matter expert on best practices on clinical trial management and/or clinical research nurse coordination and ensures adherence to applicable regulations, SOPs, working guidelines and the study protocol. S/he is accountable for the strategic overall performance of the clinical operations unit and supports and/or develops strategic initiatives to increase efficiency, ensure compliance and enhance training and development of the Clinical Research Operations Unit, in collaboration with the Administrative Director for MCC CTO and CTO Medical Director. This position reports to the CTO Administrative Director of the MCC and works collaboratively to develop, implement, and maintain the infrastructure necessary to support National Cancer Institute ( NCI ) designation.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Master’s Degree preferred with 5 years managerial level experience required, or bachelor degree in science with 8+ years of clinical research experience and 5+ years of managerial level experience required.
Evidence of progressive leadership experience. 5 years of oncology clinical research or oncology clinical experience and knowledge

Extensive knowledge in clinical research operations and associated regulations governing clinical research
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to provide leadership and promote collaboration
Possess exceptional time management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Able to manage and lead within a matrixed environment and communicate appropriately to multiple stakeholders.

Preferred Hiring Standards

Knowledge and/or experience with NCI CCSG expectations is preferred
Previous experience coordinating and managing oncology clinical research programs
Professional Organization certification preferred (SoCRA, ACRP, PMI, ACDM / SCDM or RAPs) and/or

Current Registered Nurse licensure/ registration in Virginia, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and extensive oncology clinical research management experience.

Clinical research experience, knowledge, and management in the following areas: Chemotherapy administration. Nursing supervision and management for all phases of oncology clinical trials. Regulatory and operational knowledge and experience to direct, coach and mentor managers of large matrixed teams
