The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. Position Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking an Assistant Vice Chancellor, Marketing Communications to be responsible for the development of the CSU's systemwide marketing and directly manages communications activities that promote, enhance and protect the CSU's brand reputation. The Assistant Vice Chancellor, Marketing Communications, is responsible for the development, integration and implementation of a broad range of internal and external communications activities relative to the mission and positioning of the CSU and its leadership. The Assistant Vice Chancellor, Communications, directs a staff of 20 employees as well as freelancers and consultants, and oversees the areas of marketing and branding, web and digital communications, internal communications, web and publication editorial services (writing, editing and proofreading) and printing and promotional items (including management of an in-house, full-service Copy Center). The position is expected to work in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs and the Director of Executive Writing.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Interim Vice Chancellor, University Relations and Advancement, the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Marketing Communications will:

-Develop, implement and manage the CSU' s marketing program to favorably position the CSU to increase public/private support for the system. Work with senior divisional staff on the planning, development and execution of internal and external communications.

-Direct the overall development and implementation of the CSU' s branding program, marketing/advertising campaigns, marketing communications, website development, print publications, creative services including graphic design, writing, editing, proofreading, videography and photography, and the CSU's in-house and outsourced printing and promotional items programs.

-Direct the planning and implementation of marketing and communications projects.

-Direct and manage the CSU's systemwide branding, including graphic standards and web standards; assists employees on branding standards; ensure consistency of all content and messaging to positively influence CSU's reputation among external and internal audiences.

-Direct, manage and oversee the CSU's internal/external websites including development, design and content for new sites, redesigns and updates; oversee web designers and developers; play a key role in creating and overseeing web content (including writing, editing and proofreading) and web design. Major properties include calstate.edu and the CSU systemwide intranet and all related subsites.

-Oversee systemwide and Chancellor's Office employee communications with responsibilities for print publications and online vehicles (CSU systemwide intranet and Chancellor' s Office intranet) and face-to-face communications (employee forums). Provide counsel and serve as liaison to Human Resources, Business and Finance and Academic Affairs for employee-specific communications.

-In coordination with the Executive Writing Department, writes, edits and supervises writing, editing and proofreading for the CSU's print and online marketing and internal communications.

-Make annual budget recommendations, supervise expenditures of assigned programs, and provide regular reports on status of budgets. Responsibility for management and oversight of the Marketing Communications Department, Copy Center and Officewide Copier Program budgets.

-Recruit, develop and lead a team of 20 communications professionals; assess staff activities and performance and provide training, guidance and motivation to ensure goals are met; meet with staff regularly to review goals; foster an environment that supports individuals in their professional growth and reinforces the value of teamwork.

-Oversee Chancellor's Office promotional items and print buying program including management of full-service Copy Center and officewide copier program.

Qualifications

This position requires:

-Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or related field.

-Minimum 8 years' related experience in a senior management role.

-Demonstrated measurable experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive, integrated marketing communications plan to advance an organization's mission.

-Innovative, strategic thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into measurable action plans and output.

-Extensive experience (8-10 years) in communications or a related field.

-Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management and staff.

-Flexible, collaborative and proactive team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives.

-Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers

-Experience in developing, mentoring and coaching a team of communications professionals including designers, writers, web experts and consultants.

-Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

-Experience with budgeting and managing multiple accounts and complex financial systems.

-Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.

Preferred Qualifications

-Master's degree preferred.
