Research Assistant Professor - Vision Sciences - (FAC001831)

The University of Houston College of Optometry invites qualified applicants to apply for full-time, non-tenure track research faculty positions at the rank of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Vision Sciences. The successful candidate will be involved in increasing scholarship productivity within the department, increasing the national recognition of the College, and building a research enterprise. The department has a strong group of faculty that conduct high-level basic, translational, and clinical research.

The Research Faculty position(s) will support basic and early translational research on functional circuitry of the retina using 2-photon microscopy imaging and other laboratory-based physiological studies to investigate cellular and tissue-level structure and function. The Research Assistant Professor will participate in experiment design, data collection and analysis, and scholarly writing for publications and presentations. The Research Assistant Professor will also work with the PI and co-Investigators to provide training and direct supervision to graduate research assistants working on projects. The position is grant funded and subject to continued funding. Competitive salary based on experience.

Qualifications :

• PhD or Doctorate degree in neuroscience or related field

• Experience working in an academic environment

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• A successful record of peer-reviewed publications

• Strong knowledge of the mouse retina anatomy and function

• Strong knowledge of mouse genetics, and experience in mouse colony management

• Strong knowledge of retinal imaging methodologies including 2-photon microscopy

• Experience with programming (MATLAB, Python, R) is preferred

• Experience performing behavioral studies of visual perception

• Experience with HPLC (and electrochemical detection)

• Strong knowledge of statistics, measurement, and experience with statistical software

• Preparing study results for presentation and publication
