Instructional Laboratory Manager

Position Summary:
Coordinate the preparation of undergraduate teaching laboratories in the Department of Biological Sciences. Provide instruction in first-year undergraduate laboratory courses. Supervise undergraduate/graduate student teaching assistants to ensure compliance with university/department laboratory safety standards. Order supplies and maintain equipment necessary for teaching laboratories. Ensure and monitor safety practices in the teaching laboratories.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with four years of related supervised laboratory experience.
• Undergraduate laboratory teaching experience; experience with standard testing, quality control, safety practices, and applicable laws.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching undergraduate biological sciences laboratories.
• Ability to perform advanced microbiological and/or environmental chemistry testing; training staff in laboratory analysis and testing; evaluating laboratory procedures.
• Good interpersonal skills, demonstrated lab technical skills, demonstrated skills with computers and/or other instrumentation; and effective communication skills including writing and presenting of material.
• Knowledge of training methods; experience training staff in laboratory analysis and evaluating laboratory procedures.
• Experience performing needs assessments, developing training objectives, designing and developing coursework.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
• Some situations may require work with toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals or carcinogenic substances; ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 lbs.
