Academic Advisor I - Athletics
Position Category: Staff - Full-Time
Summary:
Monitors the academic progress of student-athletes. Advises student-athletes regarding conformance and compliance to NCAA eligibility rules and requirements. Will be assigned to work with various Olympic sport teams. Implements departmental academic improvement plans and evaluates student-athlete continuing eligibility towards graduation. Will be involved with developing and implementing life skill programs for student-athletes.
Must be able to travel to NCAA conferences as required.
Must be able to work extra hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to complete NCAA certifications and reports.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties totaling five years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of university course schedules, course curriculum, and degree requirements.
- Knowledge of student advisement requirements such as monitoring student classes, scheduling, academic progress, and registration.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules relating to intercollegiate athletics programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of drug education and student-athlete wellness.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
- Skill in the use of computers and NCAA institutional software applications as applied to the management of student records (i.e. Banner, CAi, and LSDBi).
- Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage student records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, faculty, athletic administrators, and coaches.
- Ability to enhance the overall athletic academic program and represent the department as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree plus one year of related experience. Experience administering NCAA rules and guidelines at Division I athletics programs is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Requires frequent sitting, walking, hearing, seeing, talking and fine hand manipulation in the use of the computer.
