Distinguished Faculty Position

The University sits on a new 500-acre campus of high architectural quality, six miles from the center of Wenzhou.  The university is affiliated with Kean University in New Jersey, two miles from Newark Liberty International Airport and thirty minutes from New York City.

All open distinguished faculty positions are ten-month, full-time, tenure-track assignments at the rank of Associate Professor. Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses are taught at the Wenzhou China.

All faculty are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and an on-going program of research and publication or creative and performance activity. Participation in curriculum development, student advisement and service at the departmental/school, college and university level is also required. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. All positions are subject to availability of funds, due to financial exigencies. 

Michael Graves College

The Michael Graves College seeks to substantial increase its senior full-time faculty component through a new distinguished faculty position in support of its five programs. In general, applicants who are committed to the intellectual enterprise of elevating the college among its peer institutions and professionals as a member of a faculty with shared aspirations are desirable.  Based on enrollment growth and professional recognition of the college and its programs, new faculty should anticipate contributing to a positive academic and intellectual environment, and work to facilitate shared achievement among its five programs.

School of Public Architecture

Architecture (1 position: Distinguished Associate Professor) A new senior-level position will lead the effort to establish a Design Institute at Wenzhou-Kean University focusing on urban design, particularly campus design, with particular focus on the relationship between new development and preservation of historic fabric, as well as the visual identity and branding of these new projects. This faculty member will lead design studios for high-achieving students from all programs, and identify and utilize the most qualified students to assist in the projects of the Design Institute.  Areas of specialty include building design, urban design, historic preservation, branding, and visual identity.  Appointees will teach at the Wenzhou campus and non-teaching hours will be devoted to the creation, support, and administration of the Design Institute. 

The ideal candidate will contribute intellectually to the formation of this new professional programs by developing curriculum; developing a research and/or creative scholarship program that includes refereed publications, scholarly presentations and grantsmanship appropriate to a distinguished academic level; seeking external projects and funding; participating in innovative teaching and curriculum development; and actively engaging in professional organizations.

Qualifications:

Terminal degree in Architecture or a related field required, or an equivalence achieved through substantial professional practice. It is highly recommended that a noteworthy record of published professional design practice be demonstrated by the applicant. It is further recommended that candidates have a minimum two years of previous teaching experience at the college level.  A proven record of academic scholarship and professional practice is required. Professional registration, NCARB certification, AIA membership; LEED AP credentials; and both hand and digital representational skills are highly desirable.

Wenzhou-Kean University offers a competitive salary and benefits plan, which includes

  • Annual salary in range of ¥650,000 – ¥850,000 RMB ($92,000 - $120,500) for High Research Achieving Faculty at rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • One million RMB ($142,800) house allowance.
