The Chattanooga MLK Boulevard Smart City Corridor testbed was launched by the UTC Center for Urban Informatics and Progress, the Chattanooga Department of Transportation (CDOT), EPB, and The Enterprise Center (TEC). The Testbed Manager - Software/Hardware Engineering Lead will: coordinate activities involved with infrastructure deployment and scheduling; manage the interfaces to project teams who are using the testbed; and continue to develop and maintain on-prem and cloud data infrastructure and warehousing systems. Duties include:

Develop and Maintain Software Infrastructure

Support the general daily functions of asset management including maintaining hardware and software inventory, maintenance, support, reporting and asset lifecycle management; continue the development of real-time services and data warehousing systems; provision and monitor high-availability testbed applications; develop real-time web-based dashboarding and demonstration applications; work with partners on uploading their applications; and ensure that hardware and software architecture fulfills the design goals of the system and that each user understands how their activities can best make use of the overall system.

Maintain CUIP Data Assets

Ensure real-time and historical data accessibility; develop on-prem and cloud based data warehouse for data collected on MLK; and categorize testbed data into regular form and standard datasets for querying by in-house cloud-based analysts and analytics tools.

Project Management and Communications

Projectize activities to maintain and advance the testbed and track progress and financial performance; provide regular progress and status updates to stakeholders; build and sustain relationships with Partner/Collaborator teams; and assist with collecting and delivering information for budgeting of software and hardware purchases over the course of a fiscal year.

Capability Mapping and Technology Exploration

Review projects being proposed and ensure that the hardware deployed can deliver those technologies; analyze and determine feasibility and functional requirements of hardware to be deployed on testbed; and manage and provision networking assets alongside CODT IT and UTC networking teams.

Hardware and Materials for Infrastructure Deployment

Serve as the UTC point of contact for collaboration with Partners including CDOT and EPB; configure IoT, communications and other sensing devices to be deployed on MLK; schedule and oversee infrastructure deployments; and maintain hardware inventory and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering; 4 years of working experience; experience on server side development, real-time information systems, data integration techniques, data storage approaches, application development, mobile development, and information architecture design; and experience in cloud provisioning, computing and data warehousing systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Smart City infrastructure; knowledge of the challenges that must be overcome to implement such infrastructure; and working experience related to real-time low-latency system and hybrid-cloud architectures.
