Director of Counseling
Job Description
The Director of Counseling directs staff and services within the Counseling Center to provide quality counseling services to Missouri Western State University students, and provide mental health education to the Missouri Western staff, faculty, and student populations through a variety means.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
• Direct and supervise counseling center personnel, services, activities and budgets.
• Provides individual and group counseling and supervision.
• Available for after hours consultations and response to student mental health emergencies.
• Provides needed educational programs and presentations for students with ongoing assessment of efforts. Gives academic presentations as requested on topics related to mental health.
• Represent Missouri Western State University with Partners in Prevention. Conduct regular assessment of alcohol and drug use on campus. Develop programming, presentations, and plans to reduce alcohol and drug use on campus.
• Conduct assessments and provide reports on number of clients served, and other relevant data.
• Recruit practicum students from area university graduate counseling and social work programs.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or psychology,
• Five years of progressively responsible supervisory experience; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker ( LCSW ) or Licensed Professional Counselor ( LPC ). Must be licensed in the state of Missouri.

Physical Demands
Sedentary Work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

• Communication, as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.
