Job Description

The Library Technician, Senior: Night Manager/Technical Services Assistant serves as the Library night manager, supervising the Circulation Desk on Sundays -Thursday evenings. Manages all library print serials and standing orders, assists with acquisitions and catalog record maintenance, assists with Interlibrary Loan services.

Duties include interacting with and assisting Library patrons at the circulation desk, applying comprehensive knowledge of circulation department policies and procedures, following emergency procedures as necessary, communicating with Library serials and standing orders vendors on renewals and cancellations, entering invoices into the Library record-keeping system, and performing record updates in the Library catalog.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

1. Manage the Library building through closing time Sunday-Thursday, including managing the Circulation Desk, overseeing evening student workers, monitoring and closing the Library, and following emergency procedures when necessary.
2. Manage print serials including acquisition, usage statistics gathering and analysis, renewal/cancellation decisions, catalog maintenance, claiming, and physical shelf maintenance.
3. Develop, maintain and apply a thorough knowledge of best practices, efficient workflows, and tools for building and serials management.
4. Assist with processing Interlibrary Loan requests and materials.
5. Assist with print material acquisitions by receiving and performing record upkeep and physical processing on newly acquired books and media.
6. Enter serials and standing order invoices into the Library’s acquisitions system manually or with EDI and communicate details to Circulation Coordinator for entry into Banner.
7. Manage standing orders including receiving, processing, catalog maintenance, and analyzing use for renewal/cancellation decisions.
8. Assist the Assistant Director for Technical Services with collection assessment by researching new electronic resource products and how they might fit with MWSU curriculums, participating in library vendor and publisher meetings, compiling statistics and providing analysis.
9. Co-manage physical collection shifting and/or withdrawal with the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator.
10. Assist with the removal of print and/or media materials as they are withdrawn from the collection.
11. Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of related library, customer service, supervisory, circulation, or serials experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Must possess organizational, analytical, and communication skills, be able to work independently, have a strong attention to detail, and ability to multitask.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, library systems, and current issues in academic libraries preferred.

KNOWLEDGE :
• Library acquisitions, circulation, and serials processes;
• Best practice in managing the work and behavior of college-age employees;
• Current issues in academic libraries;
• Library systems, preferably the Sierra ILS, EBSCOnet, and EBSCO Holdings Management;
• Microsoft Office products;
• Basic accounting knowledge and experience with data entry and computerized ordering system.

Hours of Work

37.5 hours per week
Sunday – Thursday 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the academic year. Summer hours will vary based on the operational needs of the library.
Pay is $15.30 per hour plus excellent benefits
