The Department of Health Science, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama seeks candidates for a nine-month, non-tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Health Education and Promotion. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise and coordinate the online programs in the Department. This includes but is not limited to developing, implementing and/or maintaining program processes, programs, and policies; serving as a liaison to the Graduate School, College of Continuing Studies, and other internal partners; assisting the online programs with student enrollment cycle services, and support with a focus on recruitment and admissions; developing and coordinating student networking and mentoring opportunities across the public health programs; and developing public health trainings and content for the local public health workforce. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and coordinate the BSPH culminating experience activities (experiential learning) and the MPH Applied Practice Experience (experiential learning). The selected candidate will be expected to provide professional service to the University, profession, and community; and perform other duties as assigned.


Applicants must hold an earned doctorate degree and possess a graduate degree in health education and promotion and/or public health. We seek individuals with experience in coordinating effective online education program and student support services. We also seek applicants with teaching experience and demonstrated potential for success in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. Preference will be given to candidates who have: (a) an established record of working with online programs in health education and promotion/public health, (b) previous teaching experience, (c) experience with CEPH accreditation, and (d) previous administrative oversight of online programs. Public health or health education-related certification is desirable (i.e. CPH, CHES®, MCHES®).


The Department of Health Science is comprised of 19 full-time faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and well-being of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department is home to approximately 800 majors enrolled in one of the degree programs in the Department, including the BS in Public Health (concentrations in Health Education and Promotion, and Health Professions); Master of Public Health (concentration in Health Education and Promotion); MA in Health Studies; PhD in Health Education and Promotion; and BS and MS in Athletic Training. The BS in Public Health and the Master of Public Health degrees are in the process of undergoing accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
