Trinity in Washington, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a Dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies (PGS) upon the retirement of the incumbent dean.  The PGS unit includes associate, baccalaureate and master’s degrees as well as certificates in a range of professional disciplines including Education, Business, Journalism and Media Studies, Strategic Communication and Public Relations, Human Relations, Health Services, Criminal Justice, Psychology and similar disciplines.  The undergraduate programs focus on the educational needs of adult students who have been out of school for a period of time and wish to enter or move up in professional positions; the graduate programs focus on students who seek movement into managerial and executive positions, teaching and school administration, or who are career changers.  PGS currently enrolls more than 500 students and seeks to grow considerably.  More than 90% of the students are women, reflecting Trinity’s primary mission in women’s education; more than 95% of the students are African American and Latina, primarily residents of D.C. and the metropolitan Washington region.

 

The Dean reports to the Provost and working collaboratively with the deans of other units.  The Dean must be an experienced academic leader who has a track record of working collaboratively and creatively with talented faculty in developing effective programs for students who come to Trinity across a range of preparatory backgrounds, professional work experiences and personal life challenges.  The Dean will be an effective external leader to build programmatic partnerships with governmental agencies, schools, associations and corporations in the Washington region for student recruiting, internships and employment pathways.  The Dean must be a strategic thinker who can work with faculty, students, partners and Trinity’s leadership to develop new programs or enhance existing programs and delivery systems to keep pace with contemporary expectations for professional education. Internally, the Dean must have a good understanding of academic organization and processes, able to support and direct faculty and staff in academic advising, program assessment and accreditation activities, faculty recruiting and professional development.

 

Trinity seeks a Dean who also has considerable expertise in the development, delivery and assessment of online academic programs and services, and who can lead the movement of select Trinity programs into 100% online delivery attracting new student audiences.

 

Candidates must hold an earned doctorate or terminal degree in a professional field related to disciplines offered at Trinity; and have at least 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education including teaching as well as administration.  Candidates should also have evidence of outstanding abilities in oral and written communication including professional presentations and publications to support this requirement.
