Professorial Lecturer

The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a non-tenured position at the rank of Professorial Lecturer. The successful applicant will teach three courses per semester (fall and spring) at the introductory, advanced, and graduate levels. This appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence August 30, 2021. The contract can be renewed annually.

There are currently 8 tenure-line faculty and 5 professional teaching faculty members in the department. The department offers BS degrees with an ACS-accredited chemistry major and a biochemistry major. The department also offers a MS degree in chemistry and a graduate certificate in clinical biochemistry.

American University is a private institution, recently classified in the “High Research” category by the Carnegie Classification system. The university has shown a strong commitment to supporting and growing the sciences with its recent emphasis on building infrastructure. The Hall of Science, opened in 2020 and houses the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Neuroscience.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry.
