Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Child Development Clinic is committed to providing comprehensive developmental assessments for children and youth who have developmental concerns. The Child Development Clinic is a diagnostic clinic. The Child Development Clinic is an interdisciplinary team including medical, psychological, educational, and social work services. Recommendations are generated from the diagnostic evaluations for parents and other professionals to assist with referrals, care coordination, and intervention services.

The Child Development Clinic is financed by state and federal (Maternal and Child Health Block Grant- Title V) funds through Virginia Department of Health. The VDH Child Development Services Program is a specialized program for children and adolescents suspected of having: developmental delays, learning disabilities, attention/focus concerns, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders whom reside in Virginia.

The Clinic Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the CHoR at VCU Child Development Clinic ( CDC ). This position supervises staff providing coaching, counseling and guidance to all staff so that the mission of the program is upheld. The CDC currently maintains a staff of a Medical Director/Developmental Pediatrician, a Nurse Practitioner, a Psychologist, two Administrative Assistants, a full time RN, and a part-time LPN . The CDC also has a partnership with the Richmond Hospital Education Program and has Educational Consultants assigned to work as part of the CDC team. This position will schedule and lead weekly staff meetings for the team. Commitment to excellence is evident in advocating for safety, training of the employees, and ongoing communication between disciplines.

As the Clinic Director for the Child Development Clinic, this position is responsible for working closely with the CDC Program Director at VDH and the CDC Medical Director to strategize and implement new initiatives and program improvements; to maintain a collaborative relationship with Program Managers from the other 4 CDC centers in Virginia, to improve awareness of the program both with VCU and the region it serves; to educate both staff and patients; and to optimize all clinical processes and practices. Ensure the clinic is providing culturally competent care. This position will also serve as the point of contact with VCUHS Nurse Leadership assuring the clinic is following regulatory guidelines.

Fiscal management of this program continues to be grant funded through Virginia Department of Health. This manager works closely with VDH, the Pediatrics Administrator, and the program administrative staff to assure that funding is appropriately managed. Effort has been made to project expenditures to determine adequate funding. Monthly reconciliation is done with VCU Grants.

This position will also serve as the CDC’s Social Worker. The Social Worker will provide care coordination to pediatric patients and their families in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team staff. Provide resource information to families, assist families in accessing services, participate as an interdisciplinary team member in the assessment of complex cases, and prepare assessment reports (such as the Vineland-3).

Minimum Hiring Standards

Previous work experience in a pediatric healthcare setting.
Strong interest in developmental and behavioral disorders.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary university healthcare setting.
Considerable knowledge of objectives, principles & practices of child health and development & knowledge of federal/state laws, regulations and policies relating to child health.
Knowledge of organized behavior, supervision, interpersonal skills, & conflict management.
Ability to manage/supervise programs & staff; train & evaluate staff; develop goals/objectives and evaluate effectiveness of program.
Skilled in problem-solving, priority setting, networking, long-range strategic planning, team building, organizational and conflict resolution.
Ability to maintains clos & effective working relationship with health care systems, state agencies, stakeholders, and partners.
Knowledge of fiscal management, budget administration and control, program budgeting, principles and practices of personnel, and information systems organizational management.
Knowledge of and ability to implement and conduct quality improvement projects.
Ability to work in diverse environment.
Self-Motivated, Compassionate, People Oriented, Detail oriented.

Preferred Hiring Standards

-Previous experience within the VCU and/or VCU Health System.
- Advanced clinical skills as well as comprehensive knowledge and experience.
-Previous experience working with Developmental Disabilities.

Required Licenses/ Certifications

- MSW degree from a Council of Social Work Education accredited program or current Licensed Clinical Social Work ( LCSW ) in the State of Virginia.
