Student Engagement Officer

About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
The Northeastern community has a tradition of giving back, and each day, we witness the impact of our community's remarkable generosity. Our students are pursuing co-ops in all corners of the globe, growing their cultural fluency and preparing to thrive in the world. Our faculty are delivering leading-edge scholarship, teaching and mentoring tomorrow's leaders. And our researchers are pioneering new lines of inquiry, accelerating discovery in emerging fields. Northeastern University Advancement and the Office of Alumni Relations play an integral role in engaging the Northeastern community to create a stronger, more sustainable, and bright future.

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director for Student Engagement + Philanthropy, the Student Engagement Officer is responsible for coordinating and executing comprehensive and creative opportunities for current Northeastern student populations to engage with the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) and build a lifelong relationship with OAR and the university. The Student Engagement Officer will organize and execute student engagement initiatives including, but not limited to, student life cycle programming, traditions programming, and supporting student organizations.

As a primary point of contact for the management of all of OAR's interactions with current students throughout the student life cycle, the Student Engagement Officer will focus on:

1) cultivating lifelong relationships between students and the university through education, programming and events, and by creating opportunities for students to become involved with OAR;
2) creating, planning, and producing meaningful opportunities to develop and sustain a culture of lifelong engagement for current Northeastern student populations and various alumni groups;
3) supporting and promoting OAR's philanthropic efforts with students in partnership with the Student Philanthropy Officer;
4) cultivating, training, and retaining a network of volunteers for various positions on OAR's student ambassador group, Student Alumni Ambassadors (SAA), and serving as the primary advisor;
5) developing relationships within the current student experience, with a concentration on club sports, to impact growth and continued connection to Northeastern;
6) building partnerships and cultivating relationships with student affairs and other key departments across campus to foster collaborative interactions, communications and engagement;
7) coordinating all marketing for student engagement and exploring new ways to connect with students through innovative, digital engagement opportunities; and
8) ensuring administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to data tracking and entry, meeting follow up, inquiries and information updates, are performed accurately and in a timely manner.

Additionally, the Student Engagement Officer will be required, as their schedule allows, to participate in university-wide, student-focused activities that will provide more opportunities to connect with students. This position may also be asked to perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

The Student Engagement Officer must be able to represent the university, the Advancement Division and the OAR team in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. As a member of the Advancement Division, it is essential for the Student Engagement Officer to understand and actively support the role philanthropy plays in engaging the Northeastern community. This position interacts with students on Northeastern University's Boston campus, and requires the Student Engagement Officer to perform their duties in person on the Boston campus.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. At least three (3) years of experience is required in a combination of alumni relations/advancement, student affairs, or event management. Experience working in higher education with students and alumni is a plus. This role requires excellent coordination, organization, and written and oral communication skills, including a strong phone presence. Ability to work independently and be productive with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment on several projects at a time, is necessary. The ideal candidate will also be detail oriented with strong customer service and interpersonal skills and have a high level of self-confidence and enthusiasm, as well as proficiency with virtual communication platforms and online learning tools. A self-starter who is flexible to changing priorities, adaptable to new systems and able to interact professionally and diplomatically with students, alumni, volunteers, parents, staff, faculty, vendors and external entities is preferred.

Strong computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word are required; Experience with Salesforce and Cvent is helpful.

This position requires the selected candidate to work in person on Northeastern University's Boston campus. Frequent evening and weekend work required as student group meetings, events, programs, and activity needs dictate, along with occasional local and regional travel.
