About the Opportunity:
The Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate!
Bouve College of Health Sciences is comprised of four preeminent schools of study encompassing approximately 1,000 faculty and staff, 5,000 students, and 40,000 alumni.
Please note: The primary work location for this position is the Boston MA Northeastern University Campus Location. Until our full return to campus, which is still to-be-determined, this interview process will be conducted remotely- including virtual interviews, remote onboarding and remote work. Local, on-campus work will be required once the College and this role return to an operational status that supports it.
The Musculoskeletal Epidemiology and Biomechanics Laboratory (https://www.northeastern.edu/stefaniklab/), directed by Joshua Stefanik in the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Science at Northeastern University, has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. Research in the laboratory falls under two broad categories: 1) studies related to epidemiology of knee OA/knee pain leveraging the rich Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study (www.most.ucsf.edu) and 2) studies of gait and human movement related to knee pain across the lifespan and OA. The goal of our work is to determine risk factors, mechanisms, and treatments for knee osteoarthritis. Methodology employed includes 3-D motion capture/biomechanics assessment, gait retraining, knee joint MRI assessment, musculoskeletal modeling, and epidemiological methods using large OA cohort studies. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also work closely with Dr. Sandra Shefelbine (http://www.shefelbine.org) in the College of Engineering on a collaborative project using musculoskeletal modeling techniques to investigate changes in muscle and joint forces after gait retraining interventions. The candidate will be an integral team member, make creative contributions to innovative scientific directions in the lab, and contribute to writing manuscripts and grants. The appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal, pending funding and performance. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2021 but is flexible. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
A Ph.D. degree in bioengineering, rehabilitation science, movement science, biomechanics, or related field is required. Experience conducting human subjects research and motion capture data collection and processing is required as well as a strong background in biostatistics. Additionally, experience in musculoskeletal modeling using OpenSim is preferred. The candidate should have strong written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to work independently.
