Scope of Job:
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's diverse student body as a full-time, one-year lecturer in Philosophy beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year. The Department of Philosophy at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a pluralistic department that seeks candidates who are outstanding teachers. AOS: Open AOC: Open.

We seek candidates who can inspire students to minor, major, or double-major in Philosophy by teaching some of our lower-division courses like: Intro to Philosophy; Critical Thinking; Intro to Logic; Ethics, Happiness, & The Good Life; Ethics, Technology, & Society; Philosophy, Art, & Film; and Race, Sexuality, & Class. We also seek candidates who can contribute to our strengths in Latin American Philosophy, Borderlands Philosophy/ Spirituality, Social and Political Philosophy, Critical Philosophy of Race/ Gender/ Class, Philosophy of Science, Applied Ethics, and/ or Religious Studies. We are especially interested in candidates with relevant experience and/ or knowledge of teaching bilingual, bicultural, or biliterate students, since UTRGV is a Hispanic Serving Institution with a 90% Hispanic student body.

Complete application includes: 1) letter of interest, 2) CV, 3) list of three references, 4) teaching portfolio (upload as Other Document) and 5) unofficial graduate transcripts. Candidates may design their teaching portfolios in whatever way best communicates their excellence in teaching, but they should include syllabi and complete student evaluations with all student comments for the past two years of teaching if available. The Department of Philosophy at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a pluralistic department that contains faculty with strengths in Latin American Philosophy, Borderlands Philosophy/Spirituality, Social and Political Philosophy, offer Philosophy of Race/Gender/Class, Philosophy of Science, Applied Ethics, and/or Religious Studies. We have a BA in Philosophy, a BA in Philosophy with a concentration in Pre-Law, and Minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in
length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
