Position Summary:
Job Summary
The Associate Director is responsible to initiate, plan, execute and evaluate programs and processes for efficient and accurate delivery of financial aid funds to students including accurate student account billing. Work closely with parents and students on individual financing plans. Works closely with a number of campus partners to support student service and enhance the student experience. Professionally represent Susquehanna University throughout the region.
Specific Responsibilities
- Advise students and parents regarding financial aid programs,
process, and financing options.
- Take an active role in student recruitment and
retention.
- Manage state grant, federal Pell and TEACH programs.
- Perform need analysis (including professional judgment),
financial aid awarding, return calculations and quality
assurance.
- Coordinate financial aid for Global Opportunities (GO) Program
and university scholarships with Assistant Director.
- Speak on relevant student financial service topics, on campus
and representing Susquehanna off campus.
- Manage PHEAA's IAG program.
- Assist with student accounts receivable activities as
needed.
- Ensure compliance with Satisfactory Academic Progress
requirements.
- Coordinate summer, associate degree, teacher intern and
part-time financial aid awarding.
- Work with leadership to maintain the policy and procedures
manual.
- Act on behalf of the Assistant Vice President in their
absence.
- Contribute to the overall success of Student Financial Services
and the University by performing other duties and responsibilities
as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of regulations related to student financial aid and student accounts receivable. Proven skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to write clear, concise letters and emails; ability to effectively communicate with campus partners, external regulators, vendors, students and parents while maintaining patience, tact and professionalism. Must be able to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments. Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and ethical manner. Ability to manage and process detailed information with frequent interruptions. Ability to analyze and interpret data and solve problems within established guidelines and policies. Ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion. Must be able to attend professional conferences in the field of student financial services.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 years of financial aid experience required.
Additional Requirements
This position requires a valid driver’s license, and the ability to drive and qualify under the university’s insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle.
Physical Demand
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Operates a computer, scanner, calculator, copier, fax machine and printer. The person in this position frequently communicates with students and families who have inquiries about their student account charges or financial aid package; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Position requires occasional interaction with students and families in group settings. Working conditions are indoor.
