Director of Public Relations and Campus Communications

Kenyon College, a national liberal arts college an hour northeast of Columbus, Ohio, seeks a talented writer and discerning thinker to join an ambitious and fast-paced communications team. 

The Director of Public Relations and Campus Communications (PRCC) garners meaningful attention for the many ways in which Kenyon and its community distinguish themselves, and puts what is happening at Kenyon in a broader context. In addition to shaping and pitching stories of interest to the media, the PRCC assists college leaders and other spokespeople in honing their messages to inspire diverse audiences within and beyond the Kenyon community.

The PRCC works with, and supervises, the Writer/News Director to find and tell the stories of Kenyon today, as well as to respond to issues of public or campus concern. The PRCC serves as the lead strategist for communicating with and engaging internal, local and public audiences. In this way, the PRCC sits at the intersection of internal and external communications, and understands the dynamic interplay between the campus experience and broader public perception.

The PRCC reports to the Vice President of Communications and works in close collaboration with a team of experienced strategists and award-winning creatives, who manage and produce communications across media and channels to engage the people who make Kenyon Kenyon — prospective and current students, faculty and staff, alumni, families and donors. 

Qualifications

A gifted writer, capable of cultivating an authentic voice on behalf of an organization. A careful listener. An agile strategist. The flexibility to balance multiple demands while never compromising integrity. A nuanced understanding of how narratives inform culture, in person and online. A minimum of 8 years experience in strategic communications, public relations, speechwriting or journalism, ideally in a nonprofit setting. Bachelor’s degree in communications or other related field.
