Chicago (Loyola) seeks an accomplished, innovative, and equity-minded leader to serve as the Vice President for Student Development. The Vice President for Student Development has an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the University’s growth and increased national reputation by enhancing student life and by strengthening its integration with all undergraduate and graduate academic programs. 

 

Loyola is one of 27 Jesuit universities and one of the largest Catholic universities in the United States. It currently enrolls nearly 17,000 students on its three campuses in the Chicago area: Lake Shore, Water Tower, and the Health Sciences Campus (HSC), in addition to the John Felice Rome Center (JFRC) in Italy. In the last decade, Loyola has experienced tremendous growth in virtually every dimension, including undergraduate enrollment, student retention, health sciences innovation, physical footprint, and academic programs. 

 

Under the leadership of Dr. Jo Ann Rooney, Loyola has been on a steady upward trajectory and now finds itself at an exciting inflection point in its 150th anniversary year. The incoming Vice President will be operating within a new organizational structure that united all schools and colleges under the Office of the Provost to better support research, teaching, and successful student outcomes while helping the university further achieve its Jesuit and Catholic mission that emphasizes the importance of knowledge, intellectual curiosity, global perspectives, and cura personalis (“care for the whole person”). The Vice President for Student Development will be a member of the President’s cabinet and will work closely with the Office of the Provost as a critical partner in shaping the future of this highly successful, mission-driven institution. In doing so, the Vice President for Student Development will be expected to address the following opportunities and challenges: 

 

  • Lead efforts to deliver on the promise of an excellent student experience
  • Build stronger partnerships to ensure a transformational student experience for all students
  • Lead and further develop a dedicated team in the Division of Student Development through staff development and empowerment, transparency, and savvy financial management
  • Help develop and support an inclusive and diverse community that is grounded in Jesuit ideals
  • Influence a unified and collaborative “One Loyola” through cohesive messaging of the Division’s work and enhanced relationships with graduate and professional schools
