The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions will accept applications for the position of Dean, School of Health Professions, beginning June 14, 2021.

 The school is part of MD Anderson’s Division of Education and Training, and the Dean reports to the Chief Education and Training Officer. The Dean is the School's chief administrator and is responsible for providing academic leadership that fosters excellence in teaching, scholarly activity, and community engagement/service. The dean oversees academic planning, including the continuous evaluation of academic programs, and the development of short- and long-term goals for academic growth. The dean is responsible for administrative functions, including but not limited to staffing, budgets, and facility management. The Dean positively represents the School, Division, and Institution in local, regional, state, and national matters.

 The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Professions, in concert with the mission and visions of MD Anderson Cancer Center, is committed to the education of health care professionals through formal academic programs that award institutional certificates and confer degrees in health sciences.  In addition to the 12 programs offered at SHP main campus, it also has satellite locations at three institutions.  Ideal applicants will be known nationally and internationally in their field and will have:

  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant area of study, and eligibility for appointment as a tenured full professor in an academic department.
  • Academic leadership/administrative experience and knowledge of regional accreditation standards and guidelines (e.g., SACSCOC).
  • Substantial experience in academic administration at the departmental or similar level and successful college- or university-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining federal, state, or private grants.
  • Documented accomplishments in teaching, research, and service at a level to be appointed as a tenured professor/associate professor in an academic department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • A record of professional service and leadership in the allied health sciences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the broader educational and professional communities.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a multi-cultural environment; and evidence of strong commitment to the goals of public higher education serving diverse populations.
  • A record of proven success in the development, implementation, and assessment of academic programs.
  • Experience with the regional and programmatic accreditation process.
  • Certification and Licensure in any of the Allied Health disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ethical behavior and high standard of professional integrity, high emotional intelligence, professionalism, interpersonal skills, leadership, and management abilities sufficient to effectively direct faculty, staff, and students.
  • An innovative mindset with a vision of the future of the School that can be planned, strategized, and executed.
  • Imminent knowledge of current professional trends in the industry and general knowledge of current trends in industry practice as they relate to curricular aspects of the school.
  • Knowledge of current trends in outcomes assessment strategies. Utility of these knowledge bases to relate curricular aspects of the program to outcomes assessment.
  • Detailed working knowledge of accreditation standards as they relate to health professions education.
