Description

Arizona State University (ASU) is now inviting applications for the position of Associate Research Scientist with Biosciences Core to oversee the operation, maintenance and technical developments for a 3-Field (3T/ 7T/ 9.4T) small animal MR Solutions scanner as well as a vertical bore 18T Agilent MRI scanner. In this position, you would work on developing or optimizing MRI scan protocols and/or building or modifying coils, along with some data processing to assist in novel MRI research projects. Additionally, as time allows, you would be available to perform routine scanning for end users and help them organize and retrieve data. This position will report to the Biosciences Operations Director at ASU.

 

The small animal MRI scanner is part of a joint effort between ASU and Dignity Health and is located at Magnetic Resonance Research Center (MRRC) in ASU (Tempe Campus). The ASU imaging facilities in Tempe complement those at the Barrow Neurological Institute/ASU Center for Preclinical Imaging in nearby Phoenix.

 

Salary range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year; DOE

 

Essential Duties

  • Maintaining the facility equipment at performance specification, including conducting and/or supervising instrument maintenance, performance evaluations, and initiating and coordinating necessary service visits.
  • Providing operational and scientific assistance to ASU and outside researchers as appropriate for the advancement of the relevant research field.
  • Providing collaborative research assistance to ASU and outside researchers. This includes but is not limited to, the operation of facility equipment, data analysis, and the dissemination of scientific results.
  • Overseeing instrument scheduling and maintaining and instructing users on operations of Biosciences Core-managed community equipment and iLAB.
  • Promoting the research capacity of the facility by disseminating scientific results through both local forums, and national and international forums.
  • Maintaining inventory of consumables necessary to operate the facility.
  • Providing scientific training, instruction and consultation to users in Pre-Clinical imaging techniques.
  • Authorizing trained independent and semi-independent users to access facility resources after ascertaining qualification for use.
  • Assisting the Biosciences Operations Director and other core staff to integrate various aspects of all bioimaging resources under Biosciences management.
  • Assisting the Biosciences Operations Director and Core Facilities administrative staff to develop budgets and manage financial aspects of the facilities.
  • Coordinating with the Operations Director, to support use of other instruments, including other Biosciences Core-supported instruments.
  • Coordinating with the Operations Director, and other core staff to conduct, supervise or assist with tours for visitors.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  •  Applicants must have a PhD in Physics, Biomedical Engineering or related field. 
  •  Experience in small animal MRI and MR pulse sequence programming.
  •  5 years of post-PhD research experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong publication record and history of collaborative MRI studies is highly desirable.
