General summary/purpose:

The James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins Medicine seeks a biostatistics professional to join a growing team for a large program that monitors men with prostate cancer. The Biostatistician will work with a team of multidisciplinary researchers, study coordinators, and faculty.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain and document study databases to ensure their completeness, correctness, and integrity for statistical analysis.
  • Prepare scripts, to extract and process data and to develop proper datasets for analyses for all data requests for the program.
  • Determine proper sample size, methodology, testing standards, and evaluation processes for research studies.
  • Create custom reports and data summaries by compiling results files, generating figures, and preparing tables from analysis of studies (e.g., on prostate cancer) for dissemination.
  • Assist with the preparation of grant proposals and writing of manuscripts.
  • Perform longitudinal analyses and manage data for complex health-related databases.
  • Develop prediction algorithms to assist in creating innovative web-based statistical applications and data visualizations for clinical use.
  • Query SQL database and develop computing algorithms using packages such as SAS, R, etc.
  • Work closely with the study coordinators to develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize data quality and relevant research questions.
  • Support PI in fostering collaborations on prostate cancer research with investigators at other academic institutions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

  • Master's degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or related quantitative field.
  • 1 year related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of complex health-related databases (e.g., clinical data, health administrative databases, or electronic health records); and 2) packages such as SAS or R.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent communications.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:

  • Proficient with SAS, Stata or R software.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
