The Department of Music at Elmhurst University is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member as Director of Jazz Studies. This is an Assistant/Associate Professor position with a start date of August, 2021.
Salary Grade Essential Functions
The Director of Jazz Studies administers all aspects of the jazz program including artistic direction of jazz ensembles and combos, auditions, budget management, student personnel, planning/administering events such as the Elmhurst University Jazz Festival and June Jazz, touring, alumni communications, and public and professional service engagements. This person also manages the jazz faculty.
Teaching responsibilities include conducting the Elmhurst University Jazz Band and related courses in Jazz Studies determined and developed based upon experience of the successful candidate and needs of the Department.
Recruit students to the Music Department, and serve as a liaison to high school music programs, and music industry at large.
Perform additional duties as assigned and required as a member of the Music Department and University faculty.
Other Duties and Responsibilities Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Master’s Degree in Music, Doctorate preferred, with at least one degree in Music Performance or Education, or equivalent experience. Prior teaching experience at the high school and/or college level, strong interpersonal skills, evidence of significant professional and scholarly experience, and ability to attract and retain students.
Preferred Qualifications Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
