Job Summary

The Department of Education at Elmhurst University invites applications for a lecturer beginning August 2021. We are looking for a talented educator to teach in the undergraduate elementary and middle/secondary education programs. The teaching position would include teaching content methodology courses (science, mathematics, and social science) as well as curricular planning and instruction for elementary intermediate grades (4-6) and middle and secondary (5-12) grades. The position will begin in Fall of 2021 and require on-campus presence for teaching.

Essential Functions

1.Teach curriculum and instruction and content methods courses for elementary and middle/secondary education programs; Availability to teach during the day.
2. Demonstrates a passion for teaching a diverse student population, and setting high expectations for student success.
3. Proficient and creative technology user; Grade, manage, and set up course modules and activities using the Blackboard learning management system.
4. Collaborate with the Department chair, elementary and secondary program directors and other elementary and middle/secondary instructors to discuss program articulation, implications of student data, and personalized student support strategies.
5. Schedule on-campus office hours during the week to meet with students.
6. Availability for on-campus meetings during the semester (department meetings; Tuesday mid-day).

Minimum Qualifications

1. Doctoral degree or ABD in Curriculum and Instruction or other field as appropriate.

2. Maintain current pedagogical content knowledge including knowledge of National and Illinois Learning Standards in the fundamental learning areas.
3. Previous teaching experience in elementary (4-6) and/or middle or secondary school (5-12) in science, social science or mathematics; Experience teaching in higher education and online teaching a plus.
4. Strong organizational and collaboration skills.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
6. Knowledge and application of culturally responsive pedagogy in teaching.
7. Self-reflective practitioner who engages in reflection on practice and professional development that lead to high-quality teaching.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employee is subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is sedentary in nature and involves exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object.
