Job Summary

The Biology Department at Elmhurst University in the greater Chicago area invites applications to join the pool of part-time (adjunct) faculty for the 2021 Fall term to teach Biology courses.

BIO 100
Principles of Biology, a course designed for non-science majors. These courses sections that are currently unstaffed are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30-11:35 am with an accompanying lab on Monday from 1-3:30 or Tuesday and Thursday from 9:50-11:30 am with an online lab and another class scheduled to meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 9:50 pm. In both cases the labs are overseen and graded by the faculty member. Lectures will cover similar content to General Biology I and II, but at a depth suitable for non-majors.

BIO 107
Teach one each of a lecture and lab section of Anatomy & Physiology I, a course designed for pre-health professionals. The course sections that are currently unstaffed are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday from 9:50-11:30 am with a lab on either Wednesday or Thursday afternoon from 1-3:30 pm. In both cases the labs are overseen and graded by the faculty member.

BIO 108
Teach one each of a lecture and lab section of Anatomy & Physiology II, a course designed for pre-health professionals. The course section that is currently unstaffed is scheduled for Monday and Wednesday from 2:50-6:20 pm and includes the laboratory component. Both the lecture and lab are overseen and graded by the faculty member.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities for these adjunct faculty positions include course preparation, teaching, grading, and being available to students who have questions or require assistance. The Biology department will provide support and models for course materials if requested.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

1. An earned master’s degree in Biology
2. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and students.
3. Commitment to excellence in teaching with a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in college-level teaching with teaching online a plus
