ATTENTION:

The Department of University Heath & Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater is seeking a Counselor (Counselor, R72DN).

This will be a 100% fixed term 10-month appointment and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the position, university funding and external forces.

JOB DETAILS:

This position will provide professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporates a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives. Provides case management services to a growing population with complex mental health needs through coordination of care between campus and community resources, including coordination of care for external care, post hospitalization support, and resource identification for under-resourced students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirments:
  • Current licensure in the State of Wisconsin or eligibility for reciprocity for: License Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Psychologist

  • Experience in higher education, mental health setting or young adults
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

70% A. Direct Services
  1. Provides individual and group brief therapeutic counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal mental health issues and refers students to appropriate community resources
  2. Provides counseling and/or information and referral services to faculty and staff
  3. Provides risk assessment and crisis intervention as necessary
  4. Facilitates psycho-educational and process-oriented groups
  5. Prepares presentations and outreach activities and facilitates student adjustment and success programs to promote a healthy campus
  6. Serves on multidisciplinary campus committees
  7. Complies with all FERPA and other rules and regulations related to student records
  8. Maintains and completes all documentation in a timely and appropriate manner
  9. Works collaboratively with campus partners, provides programming and educational outreach as assigned
  10. Required to maintain licensure in good standing
  11. Approaches scope of work through a lens of equity, diversity and inclusion
  12. Facilitate the referral of students from a brief therapy model to longer term/specialized care and resources in the community
  13. Create linkage with the surrounding community resources to refer students with significant mental health needs and who have inadequate insurance coverage
  14. Provide case management services to coordinate care for those students with higher clinical needs or those who have been referred to community mental health providers including those who continue to receive psychiatry services at UHCS
  15. Collaborate and consult with crisis providers and other UHCS provider who are working with students with higher clinical needs
  16. Act as a liaison between UHS and campus offices (which includes but not limited to DOS and University Housing) that serve student to coordinate efforts in dealing with at-risk students with complex mental health needs.
  17. Collaborate with other members of interdisciplinary treatment team
  18. Participate in the Mental Health Services on-call rotation
  19. Provide triage services

  1. Provide clinical supervision to trainees
5% C. Outreach and Training
  1. Works collaboratively with campus partners, provides programming and educational outreach as assigned

15% D. Staff Meetings and other duties as assigned.
