Assistant Athletic Trainer - Intercollegiate Athletics - 17270
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks an Assistant Athletic Trainer (ATHLETIC TRAINER I).
This will be a 100% annual fixed term appointment and reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon needs of the position, university funding and external forces.
The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, to involvement in Athletic Department activities. Considering the wide range of responsibilities, the trainer must be adept in many fields.
To successfully fulfill these many duties, this person must deal effectively with many entities: athletes, coaches, health service personnel and physicians. Maintaining the trust and confidence of all these entities is necessary. Moreover, the assistant trainer should keep abreast of significant improvements by attending seminars, workshops, classes, and clinics.
Violation of University, NCAA or Conference rules on the part of Athletic Department personnel may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
- Master’s Degree in a related field
- CPR/AED certified
- NATABOC certified
- Licensed or eligible for licensure through the State of Wisconsin
- Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills
- Assess and treat athletic injuries.
- Work with coaches and strength & conditioning staff to develop and administer programs for the health and safety of student-athletes.
- Develop and conduct educational programs for coaches and student-athletes.
- Refer injured athletes and consult with Team Physicians.
- After consulting with the injured athlete and Team Physicians, inform the coaching staff of the condition of the athlete and his/her ability to perform.
- Cooperatively devise rehabilitation programs with the coach, strength & conditioning staff, and student-athlete.
- Maintain a file of insurance coverage and medical history on student-athletes.
- Maintain injury and treatment logs on student-athletes.
- Assist with the administration of the Athletic Department’s alcohol and drug programs.
- Participate in department meetings, functions and support department outreaches.
- Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
- Maintain current membership in professional organizations.
- Serve on department and university committees as needed.
- Serve as a resource to the community in areas of expertise.
