Department Summary

In support of the CSUSB Strategic Plan, the College of Extended and Global Education (CEGE) leads the campus' internationalization and global engagement by collaborating with international partners to develop and promote activities, programs, and services that meet the needs of the university, regional, national, and global communities.


Job Summary

The College of Extended and Global Education works with matriculated international students and scholars at the university. The college also coordinates international activities at CSUSB and is responsible for developing partnerships with institutions across the world. It assists students in the pursuit of education abroad opportunities, handles recruitment, advising, and student services for approximately 1,000 international students, and provides services to CSUSB faculty for organizing short-term study abroad programs, as well as in applying for grants, scholarships, and awards.

The Associate Dean and Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP) staff and departments and developing and implementing a comprehensive international recruitment plan CSUSB.

The Associate Dean and Executive Director is expected to be entrepreneurial in the area of international program development and have experience managing immigration and advising services. The incumbent is responsible for institutional compliance with federal and state laws and regulations that pertain to international students and scholars, as well as compliance with California State University (CSU) and campus policies. The incumbent serves as Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) for the F-1 student program and Responsible Officer (RO) for the J-1 exchange visitor program.

The incumbent plays a critical role in developing and implementing the comprehensive strategic plan for international education and leads university efforts in increasing international student enrollment and achieving other university strategic goals. The incumbent is responsible for enhancing existing programs, developing new initiatives, promoting global learning, and increasing education abroad participation, as well as promoting campus-wide internationalization.

The Associate Dean and Executive Director serves on the campus-wide Council on International Affairs and is a member of the leadership team of the College of Extended and Global Education. He/she is responsible for providing leadership in developing and achieving goals in support of the College and University mission.

Employment Status: Full-time, At-Will, 'Exempt' position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule
  • Generally, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Evenings and weekends as needed. The ability to travel within the U.S.



Key Qualifications
  • Knowledge of United States visa regulations, rules, and regulations that pertain to F-1 and J-1 categories; demonstrated knowledge of USCIS regulations for immigrant and nonimmigrant populations; and the Department of Homeland Security regulations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement regulations regarding foreign students and scholars in the U.S.
  • Strong and effective management and supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with fiscal responsibilities, including developing and managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in promotion of diversity among faculty, staff, and student.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work at all levels in a large and diverse public university.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement university, state, and federal regulations for international and study abroad students.
  • Demonstrated success in advancing and implementing a strategic plan that promotes campus-wide cooperation and collaborations among faculty, staff, students, academic departments and centers, to lead initiatives and programs.
  • Ability to create and lead a team by maintaining a positive, collegiate, and productive work environment that promotes inclusion and diversity.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident, as required by Department of Homeland Security, to serve as a primary designated school official (PDSO).



Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in a field related to international education, international studies or other related fields.
  • Eight (8) years of experience with progressive responsibility in the field of international education administration, including a minimum of three (3) years of administrative and supervisory experience with fiscal management responsibilities.
  • Three (3) years of experience as Designated School Official (DSO) or Principal Designated School Official (PDSO).
  • Experience with student advisement practices and continuing education programs.
  • Experience in developing and designing support services, including advising, and programming to foster student engagement in an international education office.
  • Experience with preparing professional reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Experience with developing assessment tools, conducting data analysis, developing and implementing continuous improvement plans.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in a related field.
  • Ten (10) years experience in international education programs administration with demonstrated experience in managing a complex international education office.
  • Membership and active participation in international education-related professional organizations.
  • Proficiency in a language in addition to English.
  • Experience in living, working or studying abroad for three months or longer.
  • Experience with H1B visa regulations and processing.
  • Experience and knowledge in risk management for both in-bound and out-bound students; with demonstrated experience with best practices in risk management.
  • Successful record of advancement, fund-raising, grant writing, or similar activities.



Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $10,062.00- $10,417.00 monthly

Classification Range: $6,250.00 - $18,750.00 monthly
