Teacher Education Faculty - Non-Tenure-Track
The Assistant Professor performs teaching duties for the College by providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; and providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the assigned area.
Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.
This is a one year (10-month), full-time faculty appointment beginning August 15, 2021 and ending on Commencement 2022 or June 15, 2022, date to be determined by the Dean.
A master’s degree in Education and college-level teaching experience are required.
Other requirements include:
- Demonstrated experience in writing curriculum.
- Knowledge of Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) teacher education requirements.
- Ability to teach a range of teacher education courses, including Introduction to Education, Processes and Acquisition of Reading, and other relevant education courses.
- Experience advising education students and assisting with the management of student field placements.
- Demonstrated competency with an ability to utilize current technology and learning management systems to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced and online-only environment.
- Demonstrated ability and understanding and experience of various methods and technologies within the context of evidence-based pedagogy in teaching and assessment of student learning.
- Ability to create materials based on the principles of universal design and / or ADA best practices.
- Well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and of their students.
A degree in Reading or a reading Specialist Certificate preferred; secondary level teaching experience preferred.
